To remember him as the great person he was, the department posted:

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we notify the community of the passing of Captain Paul Phillips. Captain Phillips faithfully served our community with the Bartlett Police Department since January 1st, 1992. He passed away in the morning of July 11, 2018, at his home. Always joking and eager to make everyone laugh, Captain Phillips was loved by everyone who knew him. Please remember to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Reading the comments in that post, there’s no doubt that Captain Paul was a nice person.

One Facebook user commented:

“He was hilarious. So sad he’s gone. Prayers for his family and friends at home and in Blue.”

Another one shared:

“So sorry to hear this. Paul was funny and always a treat to talk to. Paul started his career at Bartlett in dispatch I believe. Always good to see him when we made our regular Ambulance calls there and later on the streets. He was a good guy and will greatly be missed.”

The Captain was honored with a funeral procession.

One of the people who witnessed it was a UPS driver. The man didn’t just look at the procession pass by. He did something that left the family quite surprised.

Sean Brockway stood next to his vehicle.

And there, he offered his respect to the officer. His arms were behind his back and he stood with a solemn stance.

Haley Smith couldn’t stop herself from taking a photo of the UPS driver. She just knew she needed to tell everyone about the guy’s kind action.

Haley’s husband was also a former police officer who worked with the late captain. She saw how good the officer was. Seeing the reaction of the residents and even strangers witnessing the procession touched her.

Sean’s action earned a lot of positive comments.

One Facebook user said:

“Thank you sir for your respect. Our fallen officers deserve the most respect.”

Another one commented:

“So refreshing to see people doing the right thing for all the right reasons. So sorry for the loss of the fallen officer.”

The UPS driver didn’t know the officer personally.

Like most of the people who watched the procession, he just knew that he was serving the area. However, even though he didn’t know the captain personally, it didn’t stop him from paying his respect.

Clearly, people these days could learn a thing or two from Sean’s action. The world needs more kind people.
