UPS driver's kind message for new mom gets kindness returned in gifts for his baby
24-year-old UPS driver Dallen Harrell arrived at Jess Kitchelâs home in Roswell, Georgia to drop off a package. Then he saw the âItâs a boyâ sign with a large stork in front of the home.
Jess was celebrating the birth of her newborn son, Chancy.
âIf this is the âitâs a boyâ houseâŚ. I hope all is going well with your newborn. I had a child around the same time you guys did and I just hope that everything is going good, God bless and happy holidaysâ Dallen said into the familyâs Nest Security camera system.
Jess was recovering from a C-section and was feeling a little isolated.
Dallen’s little gesture made her day.
âI was just so blown away by the fact⌠that he took the time to stop and do it, and more so that he was so observant that he remembered this was the âItâs a Boyâ house with the stork,â Jess, 36, told The Washington Post.
Jess wanted the world to know about the driver’s act so she shared the 26-second security camera footage hoping to find him.
âIt is really easy to focus on what isnât going right now with staffing shortages but it was good to be reminded that there are still great people working hard every day for us!â Jess wrote on Instagram. âI really wish I knew his name but I hope he comes back and if he does there will be diapers waiting for him.â
UPS finally got in touch with Jess and helped her locate Dallen.
The pair finally spoke on the phone on December 6, three days after the sweet message.
Dallen has a three-month-old son named Deveraux with his fiancee, Taqueria Robinson-Davidson. He left the message out of kindness knowing that they were going through the same stage in life.
Jess linked Dallen’s Buy Buy Baby and Target wish list for his baby boy to her Instagram. She wanted to repay his kindness and this was her own little way of doing so.
A truckload of boxes from FedEx arrived for Dallen. Random strangers sent him packages which took up half of the truck.
Driving for UPS was a temporary job for Dallen, but the company offered him a full-time position after hearing about his little gesture.
Jess left a box filled with diapers, wipes, and a plush giraffe on the front porch for Dallen and when he returned five days later, the driver finally met the whole family, even taking pictures with them.
The UPS driver is also known as Lghtsknn Traumatized. That’s his stage name when he sings. He knows how difficult life can be so he learned about compassion at an early age. He had an open-heart surgery at 13.
Dallen’s father died five years later.
He says his mother taught him to shake hands firmly, look people in the eyes, and practice kindness all the time. Jess and Dallen have become good friends, even planning to introduce their families to each other after the holidays.
