Two guys breakdance to “Uptown Funk,” then crowd breaks into epic flash mob on the boardwalk

If you have a huge square, some funk, and people willing to dance, what do you get?

A performance like this. This happened on a harbor foreshore in Sydney, Australia on a harbor foreshore. There are plenty of flash mob videos online, but few of them are as exciting as this!

Outdoor flash mobs are just extraordinarily festive.

The video begins with a bright day and people enjoying the weather. The sun sparkles in the clear water.

Then people start to notice blaring music start to fill the air. It becomes clear that it’s Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” that is playing. With a song like that, it doesn’t take long for the crowd to get into the groove.

What is about to happen next becomes apparent. Some people begin to take out their phones and get ready to capture everything on video.

One man walks through the crowd and suddenly does some breakdancing moves. Another man watches him and decides to join in. The ship sirens go off in the middle of the dance, but they seem to be going along with the funky rhythm on purpose!

Within seconds the place fills up with dancers from all directions, and the atmosphere explodes.

A whole crowd begins to gather and they all start to perform on the improvised public stage.

Their choreography is seamless. These people must have spent hours rehearsing their routine, they are all perfectly synchronized! We found it really funny that some joggers in the background seem to pay no attention at all to what was going on. They ran through everyone dancing like nothing was out the ordinary. Maybe flash mobs are particularly popular in this part of town?

Anyway, all the participants didn’t seem to mind and were totally immersed in their choreography. Thanks to the video technician, all the great moves were captured perfectly!

There were young people dressed casually, boys in athletic wear, a man in a suit, another older guy in a shirt and tie, and some women in baggy clothes. All of them dancing perfectly in sync!

Flash mobs like these bring people together regardless of their differences. It simply highlights the beauty of music and dance.

The crowd cheers and claps along as the dancers bust their moves.

The camera even captures the reactions and the smiling faces of the crowd. Watching a flash mob in person is surely such a thrill, but this one, in particular, was especially energizing.

The video has gotten more than nine million views on YouTube since it got posted.

This flash mob turned out to be a little less spontaneous than it seemed. blog post online says this performance may have been a proof-of-concept performance for companies looking to plan viral marketing events. Or it could also have been a team-building event as well. As the blog post notes, this performance had a clear purpose:

“Flash mobs, whether performed by your team or performed to your consumers and customers, are simply a terrific, cost-effective investment for your business and marketing teams.”

Wow! Flash mobs are now going corporate! But we have to admit, it was a great performance still.

If the way of the future is experiential viral marketing, get us on board! Our day would have definitely been brightened after seeing this in person.

This is such a fun and engaging way to advertise anything.

But finding out that something this spontaneous turned out to be planned is a little disappointing. What do you think?
