Dick Van Dyke manages to steal show with funky moves while singing with wife

It is true what they say.

You only grow old when you stop having fun.

A recording studio in the iconic Capitol Records in Hollywood, California was abuzz with lighthearted energy.

Musicians gather around with their instruments, from cellos, pianos, and even a saxophone.

From downstairs, a driver called out that he has Dick Van Dyke and Arlene Silver with him.

What’s this couple doing this side of town?

As the musicians and producers chatted, Van Dyke admitted that it was his first time in the studio.

Capitol Records has launched many careers in the span of its existence, many of which were listed down by the excited couple as they walked through the hallway full of pictures.

And much like those artists, Dick and Arlene had the same mission in Capitol – to record a song that people will enjoy.

The moment the couple settled into their booths, a fancy jazz tune cued the start of the song.

“Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you,” Van Dyke started. “If you’re young at heart.” Sinatra’s version was almost like a ballad but it was freshly upbeat with Van Dyke and his wife.

His deep radio voice filled the room.

The nonagenarian proved that age was indeed just a number.

As he sang the rest of the song, you’d never believe that he was three years away from a centennial.

As Van Dyke said, “new experiences are the only things you can collect in life that ends up being worth it.”

He has stood by this idea as one of his secrets to a long life.

The other secret? Find someone good to love.

Right in the recording studio with him was Arlene Silver, his wife since 2012.

The happy couple met during the SAG awards in 2006 where Silver was the makeup artist.

Just last February, Van Dyke told Yahoo! Entertainment that his secret to staying young and healthy is “having a beautiful young wife.”

Silver returned the same energy.

She describes Van Dyke as a “national treasure,” and the “perfect partner.” It’s no surprise that Silver contributed a lot for Van Dyke to feel young.

Silver loved singing and dancing. Van Dyke said that she easily inserts these things into everyday things, even when she was just doing the dishes.

They are still also very active.

They’ve been to awards shows, red carpet premieres, and mutual projects. Van Dyke and Silver were seen during the red carpet premiere of Mary Poppins Returns.

In the original movie, Van Dyke played Bert, one of Mary Poppins’ friends.

He was referenced in the remake as the mentor of the current “matchman” who was played by the award-winning composer Lin Manuel-Miranda.

His life was also featured in the documentary “If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast.”

The documentary follows Carl Reiner who has found new life in his 90s.

Reiner then joins his other nonagenarian friends and discusses secrets on how to live young.

Together with Reiner and Van Dyke, the documentary also showed Mel Brooks from Your Show of Shows, Norma Lear, the late Betty White, and other non-celebrity nonagenarians.
