German shepherds star in annual dog calendars created by the Vancouver Police

The Vancouver Police Department is known for protecting and serving its local community. But it’s also known for something else … its amazing dog calendars. In fact, since 2010, the Department has raised over $450,000 for charity by selling its annual calendars — $175,000 was raised last year alone.

The calendars include both the four-legged members of the VPD Canine Unit along with their police friends throughout Vancouver.

The 2019 dog calendar featured the cutest German shepherds along with PD members, according to a story on Pupperish.

“The Paw Patrol is out in full swing winning the hearts and minds of the local people. Watch as [they] puuuurform some death-defying stunts in the name of justice. It’s a dog eat dog world out there, and these guys aren’t shying away from the challenge,” the Pupperish story revealed.

Each calendar month’s picture is both striking and humorous, such as this amusing doggie interrogation …

The Vancouver PD did not disappoint with its new 2020 VPD K9 Calendar, which costs $15 — the proceeds go to the B.C. Cancer and B.C. Children’s Hospital foundations.

“The calendar is funded and produced by the Candy Anfield Memorial Foundation, which was created by retired VPD Sgt. Mike Anfield in honor of his wife, Candy, a VPD officer who died of breast cancer in 2004,” according to the Vancouver Sun.

The 2020 calendar features an adventure/outdoorsy theme. From skateboarding to rock climbing to kayaking, these amazing calendar photos feature the service dogs and their handlers having the time of their lives!

“This year the decision was made to switch from sort of the on-duty look to what our dogs might do off duty,” said Brian Lequesne, constable of the Vancouver PD.

About the VPD Canine Unit

The VPD Canine Unit includes 16 handlers and dogs that work an amazing 24 hours every day of the week. Each team is carefully trained in narcotics, criminal apprehension, explosives detection, and firearms.

The “stars” of the 2020 calendar, both the handlers and the canines, actually met with the local community in Downtown Vancouver in October.

You can purchase the 2020 calendar here. And, remember, the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. The calendar is produced by the Vancouver Police Department’s Canine Unit, and all money raised is donated to the BC Cancer Foundation and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
