Homeless senior cat melts into vet’s arms when he’s held for 1st time

There are many senior animals out there who need help and a safe place to call home.

But, sadly, not many people are interested in rescuing them because “they don’t have much life left anyway”.

This couldn’t be more unfair, since senior animals actually need more medical and emotional support than younger ones, who can fight for their lives on the street.

Thankfully, not everyone thinks that a senior stray’s life is not worth fighting for.

A few years ago, a stray cat was rescued from the streets of New Jersey.

The adult feline was taken to the Voorhees Animal Orphanage, where he was taken care of temporarily.

He was found to be a senior cat, about 15 years old, and he was not in a good condition.

It was quite unlikely that the cat would be adopted given his age and his medical issues, but life had other plans for sweet little Barnaby, as he was later named.

A vet who runs his own clinic in New Jersey, Ed Sheehan, saw his picture on the internet and was curious to meet the little animal and have him medically checked personally.

Indeed, he arranged with the VAO staff to meet Barnaby, so he got there and asked to see the cat.

It was love at first sight. Once the cat saw Ed and vice versa, something clicked.

There was definitely chemistry between the two.

When the doctor hugged him, the cat simply melted in his arms. All he needed was some love and affection.

Without thinking twice, Sheehan decided to adopt the rescued feline and he took him to his clinic, the Sheehan Veterinary Center.

There, he had Barnaby checked, and he also did some blood tests to find out what the animal was suffering from.

In the meantime, he made sure Barnaby was eating all the food he needed, since he was severely underweight.

Soon, he got all the answers he needed and he made sure to inform the VAO about the cat’s condition.

“We did a full blood panel, and it came back indicating he has a very severe infection, which sadly may be cancer. We are optimistic that it is just a very bad infection however, because we have him on antibiotics and he seems to be improving! ” he wrote at the time.

He also updated the cat’s rescuers about his physical and emotional health.

He let them know that Barnaby looked much healthier, he had put on weight, his fur had already started to shine, and he was in a good mood.

Specifically, he pointed out that Barnaby followed the staff everywhere, even when they were mopping the floor.

He had already become the manager of the vet center.

As for his daddy, Barnaby helped him as well in the evening, when he was doing the books.

Everyone loved Barnaby.

The cat lived two more years with the Sheehan family before passing in 2019.

It’s so comforting to know he spent his last couple of years receiving all the love he deserved!
