Veteran breaks window — and the law — when he saves distressed dog in a hot car
Animal lovers will do whatever they can to help a pet in need, even if it’s not their animal. When Army veteran Jason Minson was out on the job one day, he had no idea about the series of events that were about to take place. When they were over, he had ended up saving a life, even if he had to break the law in the process.
Minson makes a shocking discovery
Minson, the owner of a landscaping business, was inspecting a tree on a job site when he heard a bang. He went to see what had happened and discovered that a passing car had hit a parked car on the street. When he examined the parked car, he noticed something inside, a black Labrador puppy.
A dog in trouble
Worst of all, it was a hot day and the puppy appeared to be extremely dehydrated. Checking the doors of the car, Manson found they were locked. The back window was cracked ever so slightly, but the dog appeared to be in dire straits as it panted profusely.
“It was the kind of panting that was the last effort a dog does to try to cool himself off,” Minson told The Dodo.
The police arrive
Immediately, Minson called the police. The dog appeared to be in even worse shape the longer he was in the hot vehicle. Desperate, Minson tried giving the dog some water through the slightly open window. And while this helped, the dog’s condition continued to deteriorate.
“I honestly didn’t think this pup was going to make it,” Minson wrote on his Facebook page.
Talking to the cops, Minson broached the subject of breaking the window of the car to get the puppy some aid. He was informed that he would be breaking the law if he did so. Undeterred, Minson broke the window, deciding he had to do it and that he would simply have to face the consequences for his actions.
Finding those responsible
Animal Control Officers rushed the dog to emergency care, where he received the help he needed. Once the puppy was stabilized, he was placed into a local shelter. The people responsible for the dog being locked in the car were found and charged.
As for Minson, a dog owner himself, authorities decided not to file any charges against him. He is also going to be a witness at the dog owner’s court hearing.
The puppy fully recovers
The day after the puppy was rescued, Minson went to visit him at the shelter to see how he was doing. Fortunately, the puppy was able to make a full recovery. Without Minson there to save him, though, things could have easily taken a turn for the worse.
