Veteran reunited with lost service dog who was shot multiple times in the head

Have you ever lost a dog, or any animal? How did it feel? Did it give you sleepless nights?

What if, one day, you found your lost dog with gunshot wounds? Like someone had tried to end its life? What level of anger would you feel after knowing that someone intentionally hurt (and almost killed) your beloved dog?

This veteran can certainly relate to the range of feelings that would boil over.

A veteran’s dog went missing, and he is no ordinary dog.

Tony Eadus is a veteran who lives in Missoula, Montana. He was in total shock after discovering that his German Shepherd service dog, Lucca, went missing.

Lucca is not just a mere pet. He is Eadus’ life-line.

The dog knows when his human companion is feeling anxious. And whenever he is, Lucca always puts his head on Eadus’ lap to calm him down. Now Eadus needed his dog more than ever.

The clueless veteran spent nearly eight hours searching around his apartment complex in hopes of finding his furry friend but, with no luck, he ended up empty-handed.

“I was outside for about six-to-eight hours walking all over the apartment complex and everything looking for him and I’d get up in the morning and look over to where he normally sleeps and he wasn’t there and I’d freak out,” He said in an interview with KPAX.

A lead to finding Lucca had been reported, but it came with a shocking revelation!

Miracles do happen because, after nearly four days, Animal Control received a report about a dog wandering around Cote Lane. They came over to pick him up and saw that the dog was badly injured, so they rushed him to Missoula Vet.

They were devastated to discover three gunshot wounds on Lucca; two in his head and one in his shoulder.

The vet did not waste a single second. Lucca immediately underwent surgery to remove the bullet resting in his face.

Thankfully, the vet scanned Lucca’s microchip and traced him to his owner. They were eager to bring the lost dog back home to his worried human.

Lucca was then reunited with Eadus!

Even though he was seeing him plain as day, the veteran still couldn’t believe his eyes.

“I can’t imagine a person doing that. Why would you steal a dog and take him clear across town and shoot him?” Eadus said, “Really emotional, I can’t believe he survived all that.”

With the help of his rescuers and his vet, Lucca is expected to fully recover.

Of course, he will be in and out of the vet clinic in the next couple of weeks for check-ups.

As far as the bill is concerned, the generosity of the community already settled it so it will never become an issue.

We can only pray that some information will come forward leading to the arrest of the monster who did this to Eadus’s beloved dog.

Missoula County Animal Control encourages the public to reach out to them for any information or lead about Lucca’s injuries.

“He went missing around 34th Street, and so he made it quite a ways away. We don’t know who did anything, we don’t know if someone took him from his home, we don’t know who shot him, we don’t know any of the circumstances, so if anyone has seen or heard of anything that can give us some insight then we can follow up on it,” Missoula County Animal Control Officer Cassidy Russell told KPAX.

If you or anyone you know has any information that could help find the person who shot Lucca, please reach out to Missoula Animal Control at (406)541-7387.
