For many of us, the bonds we form with others while we are young have the most significant impact on our lives. Some friends I had when I was a kid, I still talk to and reminisce about the “good old days.” That’s what makes this story so easy for me to enjoy.

Back in 2007, an Imgur user’s sister told her not to get a puppy right after having her baby. This story wouldn’t exist if she had listened, and her daughter wouldn’t have the best friend she has grown up with her whole life. The black lab puppy and her new baby daughter are only born one month apart.

Since the day the two met, the lab has been by her side. Learning about the world together and literally taking one step at a time. They shared so much and occasionally even some baby cookies that the young puppy couldn’t resist.

Their relationship was budding and the bond was becoming deeper

They had a tradition of watching cartoons together every Sunday morning. Whether they laid together to watch the TV or if the little girl would use the dog as a chair, they wouldn’t miss the experience for the world.

They quickly became inseparable. Always hanging out no matter where they were. The car, the living room, inside or outside.

They would even walk to school together

Eventually, the family would have another daughter, and the family grew. They would start to have human friends over to play, but the dog was still the focus for the little girl.

They played “dress-up” together with other friends

The lab now has a cute white beard, and the time is showing but, the love is unconditional. Through thick and thin, they have been through everything together.

In 2017 the dog was diagnosed with benign tumors and required surgery. It would be a tough time for everyone, but for the little girl, it was the hardest. As the dog recovered and he laid weak, his best friend wouldn’t leave his side.

She stayed right next to him while he healed

The latest picture, shared from 2019, shows the two still playing together. The dog has recovered, and they continue doing the things they have done for years. The fun might be moving at a slower speed, but the bond these best friends have created will last for eternity.

Even though the inevitable of the end hasn’t happened yet, we all know that it is coming. It will no doubt break all of our hearts. Regardless of the pain, the memories and the joy that was experienced will be worth the loss by 1000 times.

Let us all hope they continue the relationship with smiles on their faces for as long as possible. The animal you grow up with will be the most important relationship you have with an animal, and you will always remember them.
