Woman buys vintage railroad trailer for $350 and turns it into the coziest tiny home

Hannah Doss had set her mind: not to spend a dime renting again.

She spent most of her college life renting a room or apartment she found on Craigslist and living with others.

After meeting different people and their ups and downs, she realized she no longer wanted that lifestyle.

After graduating with her master’s degree, she decided to live in a tiny house and be rent-free.

Thanks to her father, who worked at the railroad for more than twenty years, he led her to various surplus auctions where she found the perfect candidate.

It was a 232-square-foot 1985 railroad trailer. She had a $350 budget in mind and was set to stop bidding beyond that.

Hannah had luck on her side when the bidding stopped at her final bidding price.

The railroad trailer was finally hers, and she started making the piece of surplus into a beautiful home.

Her father helped her with the build, cutting labor costs; she spent $9,000 for this stunning home.

This was the start of her journey with Journey, her new trailer home.

Hannah drove Journey cross-country until she found a job in a park near Lake Tahoe, California, which has employee housing and allowed her to park her trailer in the vicinity.

She lives with her boyfriend and their lovable pooch.

The home may be tiny, but she had everything in it.

Hannah has this great use of space with a spacious living area for them to hang out – listen or play music, create art, read books, and so much more.

One remarkable detail in this part of her home is that brick backsplash that looks very realistic!

The most significant space-saving feature in this tiny home is her bed.

Can you figure out where this bed was hidden the whole time?

It is under their living area, pushed back but partly protruding to double as a couch.

Brilliant, right? The bed is just the right length and width for Hannah and her boyfriend to sleep on.

Her kitchen doesn’t have enough space as you would in a big house, but it would do.

Hannah uses the folding table beside the counter for additional space when preparing their meals.

She also has enough shelf space for pantry staples and kitchen utensils.

She also upcycled an old folding table given to her by a friend.

However, she had to cut it a bit to fit the size of the space she intended for it.

It isn’t that big, but it’s good enough for two people to share a meal, and she also uses the space to create her artwork.

Lastly, her bathroom. It’s simple yet functional, and that’s what matters.

She has an electric tankless toilet that is more convenient for mobile homes like hers.

The shower has enough space to move around, yet not too restrictive like most tiny houses are.

But check out this cool feature…

Could you guess what this antique writing desk is doing in the bathroom?

It opens up to a standing sink, with enough counter space for her toiletries whenever she brushes her teeth or does her face routine.

Brilliant idea, isn’t it?

Take a tour of Journey and appreciate Hannah’s great work on this one!
