Wal-Mart cashier sings phenomenal version of Dolly Parton hit
Dreams do come true if you really believe in them and work hard to realize them.
For many young people who wish to make it to the big stages and become megastars, this may translate to filling out an application form for a talent show.
Applying for the show is the first step, of course, as there are numerous auditions that await you before actually making it in front of the judges- if you ever do, that is.
But, let’s be honest: who needs talent shows today when there is technology? If you put on a performance anytime, at any place where there are a few groups of people, then it is likely you will soon go viral- and you won’t even need to compete against anyone.
Someone who likes your voice recording your performance and posting it on social media will suffice.
Just like in the case of young Walmart cashier, Kayla Slone, from Logan, West Virginia.
Slone was 21 years old at the time and she loved her job at the megastore. However, she had one secret passion: singing.
Well, actually, it was not that much of a secret, since when she was 15, she had recorded an album with her brother, which never reached the hands or ears of the public.
On that day, she was just working her shift when she felt the need to express herself through a song. So, right there, at the counter, while lots of customers and colleagues were watching, Slone started singing Dolly Parton’s “Coat of many colors”.
The young woman, with her name tag still on and pen in hand, put on an impromptu country performance out of nowhere.
Of course, such a show couldn’t go unnoticed, and someone held up their phone and recorded the whole thing. Later, they posted it on social media and it went viral.
The rest is history!
She was identified and approached by major news source ABC News, who also interviewed her for one of their shows.
Slone is a coal miner’s daughter, while her husband is a miner, too, and it feels like she just has country music inside her. It’s like she’s meant to do this for the rest of her life.
Listening to her singing tugs at your heartstrings and it so much reminds you of Dolly Parton’s early performances.
“I’ve never even thought that it would make it that far. I honestly thought that, you know, people would see me and enjoy it,” Slone told ABC News.
The young woman was surprised that her video went viral, and she also couldn’t believe her eyes when people went to her to ask for an autograph.
Yet, the surprises for young Kayla didn’t stop there. Her dream of singing at the Grand Ole Opry came true only a while after her video was made public.
“Country music at its best is about real people singing real stories about real life. How the chips fall often times in the music industry can be very hard to predict, but it starts with a voice and a passion and we’re happy to give her a stage,” Pete Fisher, vice president of the Opry said.
The young woman performed “Coal miner’s daughter” on the iconic stage and her singing charmed the audience.
Although we don’t know whether Slone chased her dream after that event, we are sure she has never stopped singing and making whoever listens to her voice a little happier.
