Walter the donkey is from Arizona. He lives with his mom, dad, and three adorable German Shepherds.

This donkey grew up with dogs, so it’s not at all surprising that Walter picked up some canine habits. A little odd for a donkey but his parents and the three dogs love him all the same.

Kelly and Brad Blake adopted Walter when he was still a little donkey, taking him into their home in Oatman, Arizona.

“We have wild burros that roam the town,” Brad told The Dodo. “Walter’s mama rejected him because she was too young. The Bureau of Land Management and town locals tried for 10 hours to get Walter’s mama to take to him. Nothing was working, so we were called and asked if we would like to adopt him. Of course, we said yes!”

The Blakes’ lives now have so much character thanks to the donkey. Walter loves the attention and affection he gets and soon began to adjust in his new home.

Walter grew to 150 pounds after a few health issues. He lives his life like one of their big dogs and whenever Walter needs help, his doggy siblings are always there to assist.

“We have three German shepherds and they all took to baby Walter from day one,” Brad said. “They have helped us raise him and teach him house manners.”

The adorable donkey does act like a pup.

He plays like a pup and sleeps like a pup, but it’s when Brad returns home that his doggy side shines through. What a donkey!

Like a real dog does, Walter wags his tail when he sees his dad, then hops around Brad showing how much he missed him.

“Walter acts as though he is a dog,” Brad said. “He wags his tail and gets excited when we come home. He hops and brushes his body against me to love on him. He even lays on the couch next to me for naps.”

He’s a donkey but you would swear it’s a dog inside that body.

“Every night we all go on our walk into the desert for exercise and Walter runs around with our shepherds as though he is one of the pack,” Brad shared.

Brad and Kelly made sure Walter is a helpful member of the community too. Walter volunteers as an emotional support donkey while helping other charities.

Walter’s adorable charm has earned him so many fans on Facebook. His parents are more than willing to update his many followers on what the donkey is up to.

“We never imagined how much Walter would change our lives for the better,” Brad said.

A donkey that behaves like a dog and loves his family has touched countless lives just for being who and what he is. And because of that, he’s got a wonderful relationship with his parents.
