Owner shames dog for stealing treats – but the dog’s “sorry” just melted our hearts

Jennifer Medrano is a professional photographer who lives in Spokane, Washington with her two adorable dogs, Watson and Kiko.

Watson is the OG Golden Retriever of the house, while Medrano got Kiko in June 2015 when he was just 8 months old – he was meant to be an emotional support dog.

The two new brothers quickly became inseparable besties.

Like so many adorable pets whose human parents are good with the camera, Watson and Kiko have their own Instagram page.

And it’s totally worth a look if for no other reason than that the dogs have learned to hug each other, which leads to some truly classic images taken with their owner’s Sony Alpha &R II.

The duo has nearly 1 million followers on its social media page!

Medrano told the Daily Mail earlier this year:

“I taught Watson how to hug. He knows many tricks but that’s his favorite. I was teaching Watson to hug when I was in the process of making our bond stronger.”

Well, it’s safe to say he caught on!

“I think their popularity is because of the love, connection and compassion they show in every photo or video. But also the lovely places they explore together,” she said.

Of course, just because the two dogs are best buds doesn’t mean they’re not naughty – even to one another – every now and then.

They’re dogs, after all, and they’re not exactly known for their self-control.

Luckily, they still remain adorable. And that’s probably why a video of Watson taken after stealing a treat and being asked to apologize already has half-a-million views on the boys’ Instagram page in the week since it was posted.

The video starts after Watson has done the deed. Both dogs were given treats, but the naughty boy ate them both. So it was time to have a talk.

“Hey Watson, do you understand when I’m talking to you?” Medrano asks in the background.

The pup looks at her earnestly, but also briefly looks away in guilt.

He also gives a little huff as if to indicate he understands he’s in trouble but would very much like this moment to be over soon.

“So I gave you a chewy, I gave Kiko a chewy. You ate Kiko’s chewy,” his owner chides.

He knows it. He loved it. He’ll probably do it again.

Watson clearly knows he’s not in much trouble because he’s perfected the “don’t I look sad, please forgive me soon” look.

But the Golden Retriever isn’t in the clear just yet. He’s going to need to apologize to Kiko, who is standing by (not seeming to notice he’s even missing a treat).

“So what do we say when we steal someone else’s chewy?” Medrano asks.

And that’s when Watson heads for his brother. He knows what he needs to do.

It’s time to break out the hugging skills.

And when he does, it’s hard not to let your heart shatter into a million pieces over the sheer adorableness of it all.

In case you’re wondering, the two brothers are just fine and everything is back to normal after The Great Treat Incident of 2020.
