Everything you need to know about tuxedo cats
Cats are amazing creatures and, like all companion animals, they can lift their owners’ spirits with their day-to-day mischiefs and their snuggles.
But one of the most loved types of cats is the tuxedo cat. By that, we mean mostly black cats that have some white fur under their chin. However, these are not the only colors in which tuxedo cats come. They can also be orange, gray, silver, and even tortoiseshell with patches of white.
In this article we have compiled the most im-paw-rtant information about tuxedo cats that one needs to know.
First of all, did you know that tuxedo cats don’t all belong to the same breed? In fact, tuxedo cats can be found in many different breeds, including Maine Coon, Turkish Angora, American Shorthair, or British Shorthair, while their coat can be long or short, silky, or shaggy.
Also, did you know that several great men were tuxedo cat-lovers? That’s right! Many historical figures like Shakespeare, Beethoven, and Sir Isaac Newton owned a tuxedo cat.
One reason why people love tuxedo cats so much could be because they are said to be more intelligent than other kinds of cats. And, although we can’t prove that, we can always trust what proud tuxedo cat owners claim.

Apart from that, another reason could be that they are thought to possess magical powers. Again, this is something we can’t attest to- and, let’s be honest, it’s probably untrue- but it could still be a reason why people prefer to have them at home.
Another interesting fact about the adorable tuxedo cats, and one that you probably know already, is that there have been famous tuxedo cats featured in cartoons, movies and theatrical plays. More specifically, Sylvester the Cat is a tuxedo cat, as well as the famous Felix from the popular cartoon, and Mr. Mistoffelees from the musical Cats!
And, if the above are not enough to prove tuxedo cats are famous, let us remind you that Chelsea Clinton’s cat, Socks, was a tuxedo one.
She was born in 1991 and died in 2009, while she had moved with Clinton’s secretary when the family left the White House.
Still not impressed? What if we told you a tuxedo cat named Sparky inherited 6.3 million dollars when his owner passed away in 1998, making him the richest cat to that day.
Thought that this was the most impressive thing a tuxedo cat has ever done? Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. It appears tuxedo cats are quite ambitious, since one of them once ran for office in Canada. Yes, you read that correctly.
In 2012, Stan the tuxedo cat ran for mayor in Halifax, Canada. And, although he wasn’t elected, he inspired awareness campaigns and initiatives about homeless cats. In fact, as a result, the Halifax City Council gave a hefty grant to the area to facilitate spaying and neutering of stray cats.

Of course, like all cats, each “tuxidude” has its own personality, and not two tuxedo cats are the same.
However, one thing is for sure: that they are loyal, affectionate, and always happy to spend time with their favorite people.
