Wife introduces rescue dog to hubby and in no time becomes the ‘3rd wheel’

Most people would agree that animals, especially our pets, chose us.

We may not know that we got them yet, but have you noticed how we’re drawn to them in a certain way?

Those who tried visiting shelters to look for someone to adopt know this feeling quite well.

Among all the other animals you could have, there’s always that one that connects with you and even touches your heart.

Laura and her husband felt that way when they saw Rusty.

The couple had just lost their German Shepherd, Cane, and thought they weren’t ready for a new dog.

However, when one of the dog lovers and shelter volunteers sent them a photo of this poor dog in Miami-Dade Animal Services, they knew that they should check him out.

You could say they saw many “red flags” by his cage.

And by red flags, I mean there was red writing stuck on his cage saying that he was “acting aggressive” and “not good with other dogs.”

But instead of getting discouraged, Laura said these made them want him more because if they didn’t, other people might also just ignore him, and he’d be left in the shelter for most of his life.

They brought Rusty home and immediately proved all those messages wrong.

It turned out that the dog they considered aggressive was a snuggly buddy and had the sweetest disposition anyone could imagine. He’s a goofball, too!

He had a few challenges adjusting to his new home, but Rusty found comfort in his daddy.

Laura shared how Rusty and her husband just clicked.

The big floof would always stick by his daddy’s side. They would snuggle next to each other and cuddle for hours!

At times, they fall asleep in each other’s arms. Laura told GeoBeats Animals:

“I just wish Rusty would love me a fraction as much as he loves my husband.”

She shared how her husband started a bedtime for Rusty at 10:00 PM.

He would usually act up at night, especially when Laura and her husband were still doing something around the house.

But that stopped when he had his sleep routine, and Rusty would just stay on the couch to lay down or jump up on Laura’s husband and start to lay his head on him.

This made Rusty the “third party” in their marriage, and Laura knew she had tough competition.

One could say Laura became the third wheel.

It was a competition either way for her as Rusty “stole” the time and attention of her husband; she also wishes he would cuddle more with her and less with her husband.

But Laura couldn’t complain. He was such a happy and peaceful dog that she knew she deserved all the love and care from his hoomans.

Rusty is just one of their four fur babies at home.

They have another dog named Slayde and two cats named Logy and Lylu, and they’ve been so good with Rusty – though Slayde may not have that much “puppy” energy and would prefer to lay down and sleep.

But with all that, we could say Rusty found a furever home that would love him endlessly.
