Wife tricks husband into adopting “tiny” puppy – a few years later, he realizes his mistake
Though it seems hard to believe, not everyone on this planet is a dog lover. On the other hand, there are very few people in life that can resist the uber adorable charm of a tiny puppy. A fact that one wife knew all too well.
It can be tough to live with someone who isn’t a fan of the adorable fur babies. The only way to get through it, seemingly, is to compromise. Unless you’re Sue Markham, that is. In that event, you skip the whole drama of the argument by simply pulling a fast one on your husband.
Rather than negotiating with her husband about getting a dog, and then compromising on size, Sue decided that there was an easier way to get what she wanted. She would just have to “bend the truth” for a short time.
With that in mind, Sue took a trip to the animal shelter and brought home an adorable little black and white puppy.
The thing about Sue’s husband, though, is that he absolutely did not want a big dog in the house. Little did he know that the puppy his wife brought home was a Boston Great Dane. In case you don’t know much about them, they just happen to be one of the single largest breeds of dog that there is. So, how was she going to convince her hubby to keep their new furbaby? Lie.
The dog-loving wife told her husband that the puppy was a Jack Russel terrier, which are known to stay small. Being that her husband doesn’t much care for dogs, he was none the wiser.
While lying to her husband was risky business, Sue knew that he would just need a little time with the puppy to see that he, in fact, really does love dogs, both big and small…and even enormous. Though at first her husband had no inkling about his wife’s fib, it soon became apparent that he’d been had when the puppy, who they named Yogi Bear, quickly surpassed any Jack Russel he’d ever seen in terms of size.
When he finally noticed, his wife knew it was time to come clean.
Sue told her husband how she’d duped him but, just as she expected, he couldn’t stay mad for long. Thankfully, he never got that upset about his wife lying to him in the first place. Why? Because Sue was right! Her husband had already fallen far too in love with their growing puppy to ever be mad that they got him.
The puppy himself, though, had a nice little surprise in store for his mom and dad.
Not only was Yogi actually a Boston Great Dane, known to grow to 135 lbs on average, but he is also a giant among his kind. The puppy quickly grew to surpass the average weight for his breed by a whopping 65 lbs. Once grown, Yogi weighed 200 lbs!
The Markham’s puppy wasn’t just big for his breed in terms of weight either. Yogi also, unbelievably, grew to be 6’11”! If he were human, Yogi would most likely be drafted into the NBA!
“I thought a big dog would be a lot of work and could be trouble. We only have a small living room. I thought, ‘How much trouble can a Jack Russell be?’ By the time he was five months old, he was bigger than any Jack Russell he came across at the park and he had this big tongue that lolled out of his mouth and a tail like a baseball bat,” Sue’s husband, Robert, recalls of the puppy in an interview with the Daily Mail.
It’s no joke that Yogi is said to be as large as a horse. In fact, the statement couldn’t be more accurate. This lovable giant of a dog actually has to wear winter horse jackets, because the ones made for dogs simply won’t fit him.
It turns out that the now 9-year-old Boston Great Dane is pretty spoiled beyond just the fancy jackets, too.
Though he started out at just over a pound when they brought him home, Yogi is now a gentle giant, and a hungry one, too. The 200 pounder goes through food like no one’s business, consuming approximately $213 in food every month. Not just any old dog food, either.
Yogi’s mom makes him a delicious breakfast consisting of no less than 4 scrambled eggs and tasty sausages. That’s just breakfast! After he’s eaten his morning meal, Yogi has a nice comfy couch of his very own that he can lounge on while he watches TV.
According to Sue, her overgrown puppy knows that the couch is his and his alone, and doesn’t take kindly to strangers trying to steal his special spot.
“Bear sees himself as one of the family. He certainly thinks of himself as a real person. He sits on his own sofa and watches the TV with us. He’s very protective of it. If a stranger comes in, he won’t let them go and sit on his sofa,” Sue explains.
In fact, the only other being able to sit on Yogi’s couch is his best fur friend; an elderly neighborhood cat that comes over just to snuggle with the enormous pup on his cozy couch. How adorable is that!?
