Henry Winkler’s remark to Kelly Clarkson’s dyslexic daughter sends mom over the edge
“My makeup artist is going to kill me,” thatâs how talk show host, singer, and songwriter Kelly Clarkson reacted to a heartfelt message she received from her guest.
He’s a charmer we all know.
The recent episode featured a heartwarming encounter between Kelly and esteemed actor Henry Winkler.
The two artists shared one common thing in their lives.
They know the trials of dyslexia.
The âBarryâ actor, Winkler, has written over 30 childrenâs book titles.
Thatâs on top of his career as an actor. Winkler’s success as an author, particularly as someone who had overcome dyslexia, is something that Clarkson finds inspiring because itâs the same learning difference Clarksonâs daughter also faces.
During the show, Kelly shared her daughter River Rose’s struggles with dyslexia.
She shared that her daughter had her share of being bullied because she was unable to read like her peers.
“I was driving my daughter to school yesterday, and she’s dyslexic,” the mom of two shared during her show. “And you have told me that you’re dyslexic as well. I find that amazing, to tell my daughter that you’ve written like 40 books and you’re dyslexic.”
Unaware of how common this learning difference was, Kelly was deeply moved when Winkler revealed that 1 in 5 children are diagnosed with dyslexia.
Winkler made River Rose feel that while she may be different, she was never alone.
Winkler then directed a heartfelt message to River Rose.
“River!â the actor-author said as he looked directly to the camera, âHow you learn has nothing to do with how brilliant you are.”
Clarkson, overcome with emotion, tearfully witnessed this empowering moment.
Clarkson has always been open about her parenting journey and the challenges she faces as a divorced mother of two.
In a recent podcast interview, she shared how she regularly checks in with her children, Remington and River, to understand their emotions and build a safe space to help them express their emotions.
It’s not always easy.
The aftermath of her divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock has been an impactful moment not only for Clarkson but especially for her children as well.
Clarkson emphasizes the importance of open communication with her children.
Her parenting style is all about striking a balance between treating them as individuals with complex emotions and acknowledging their young age.
She understands that their feelings are significant and should never be dismissed.
Drawing from her own experience growing up in a divorced family, Kelly relates to her children’s pain while assuring them that they are loved unconditionally by both parents.
People all over the internet were moved by the segment.
âOur son is brilliant. He has a knack for electronics and can fix or build anything. We’ve always encouraged him to pursue his dreams.â One commenter shared their experience with dyslexia. âThank you Henry for telling children they are brilliant.â

And no matter how different peopleâs experiences are when it comes to the learning challenge, they all agree that it does not affect how brightly youâll shine once you grow in a supportive and understanding environment.
