Husband says his “word is law” and witty wife quickly puts him in his place
Times sure have changed and many more have risen to challenge the status quo. Women are no longer subservient to the men in their lives. Nor are they going along with the stereotype that women belong in the house and their duties are to raise children, keep the house clean, the husband happy, and everything else in tiptop shape. No sir, those are all things of the past. Today’s women are formidable and assertive. They drive companies to success, present impressive breakthroughs in different fields, and raise strong, smart, well-mannered children on top of all that.
There really is nothing women can’t do, which is why the woman in this joke delivered the best punch line to the man’s declaration.
The husband had just finished reading a new book entitled, “You Can Be The Man Of Your House.”
He stormed to his wife in the kitchen and announced,
“From now on, you need to know that I am the man of this house and my word is law. You will prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I’m finished eating my meal, you will serve me a sumptuous dessert.”
“After dinner, you are going to go upstairs with me and we will have the kind of fun that I want. Afterwards, you are going to draw me a bath so I can relax. You will wash my back, towel me dry, and bring me my robe.”
“Then, you will massage my feet and hands. Then tomorrow, guess who’s going to dress me and comb my hair?”
How do you think the wife reacted? As calmly as can be. Her answer to his set expectations was pretty simple.
The wife replied,
“The damn funeral director would be my first guess.”
While this joke can make just about anyone chuckle, you’ll be pretty horrified to know that some men still expect this kind of treatment. This is not to say that wives shouldn’t take care of their husbands – it’s simply changing the narrative that was embedded by society decades ago: that all women should do is stay home, cook, clean, and submit to their husbands.
Fortunately, more men are raising their sons and daughters to think and act otherwise.
A huge ego is a tough companion to have. It’s quite the liability and gets in the way of relationships. That’s why we raise our glasses to men who respect women and see them for who they truly are: strong, capable individuals with a driving force strong enough to change the world, beginning at home. Let the men and women in your life know just how much you appreciate them today: for who they are and what they can do, for their willingness to embrace and practive inclusivity and equality.
Ladies, don’t bristle at this “man of the house” joke. Know that it’s just a dig at how things used to be.
