One day, Laura adopted a German Shepherd named Rusty.

“At the time, we had recently lost our German Shepherd. One of the local dog lovers, she volunteers at the shelters, she sent us Rusty’s picture,” she recalled. “He had these floppy ears that went out to the sides and our last German Shepherd had floppy ears too.”

To make the long story short: they fell in love instantly and wanted to take him home.

The shelter classified Rusty as an aggressive dog.

On his cage were some notes stating that Rusty was “not good with other dogs” and that “he was aggressive.” But that didn’t stop this couple. In fact, they wanted him even more.

“Because we were just saying, what’s gonna happen to this big baby? Is anyone gonna adopt him?” she pointed out.

And so, they took him in.

Although they don’t know his exact history, they found that Rusty feared cars so they assume that at one point, the poor boy was a stray on the streets.

“We had to work with a lot of challenges. It took a little bit of time, but what happened was he finally just clicked and bonded with my husband,” Laura added. “They would lay on the couch together, fall asleep in each other’s arms, literally. It’s just unreal.”

Suddenly, Laura became the third wheel now.

Laura’s husband even made a bedtime for him at 10:00 P.M. The duo goes to bed together while she stays up to do some more work around the house.

“Once Rusty had a bedtime and a routine, he really got into his groove and he stopped acting out and he really started just loving more and it was just amazing,” she fondly recounted.

Rusty gets to spend time with another dog too.

His name is Slayed. The couple also has two cats. Rusty has one big and happy family.

“He doesn’t know his own size. They cuddle all the time, even when they’re sleeping. And it’s so unfair because when I crawl into bed, I’ve got my tiny spot,” Laura funnily shared in frustration.

Laura also shared some unique traits his boy has.

Apparently, Rusty is taller than other dogs of the same breed. He has the face of a German Shepherd but he’s red all over the body. He also has the biggest eyes among all of Laura’s dogs, past and present.

Adopting Rusty is one of the couple’s biggest blessings, and it goes both ways definitely. Rusty is so loved and we are glad he finally found his forever home, in the loving arms of Laura and her husband.
