One of the many unfortunate realities women face is the potential danger of being alone at night.

Some do their best to avoid putting themselves in this kind of scenario at all, meanwhile many ladies carry self-defense items like pepper spray or a whistle. These are great ideas to prevent something terrible from happening, but sometimes avoiding danger requires a bit more creativity.

A lady was faced with a scary scenario.

A New York City woman was headed home to her son late one night when she noticed three men were following her. She knew she had to act or else she may find out what they wanted. But it was late at night in New York and she had no self-defense weapons.

She found luck in a stranger nearby.

The woman spotted a man heading to catch a train and thought that he might be the answer. Despite having no idea who the man was, she walked directly up to him with arms wide and gave him a big hug.

While the strangers hugged, the lady whispered her explanation in his ear. She urged him to pretend as though he knew her so that the men pursuing her would be deterred.

The man who happened to be this woman’s safety net goes by the Twitter handle @WonderKing82, and named his account “Black Professor.” His real name is Dane Weeks.

The man offered his perspective to the public on twitter.

Apparently, at first, Dane was worried that the woman was scamming him. In reality, that is a common mindset among New Yorkers who have evolved to expect such behavior from total strangers approaching at night.

But Dane sensed that her fear was genuine, and was happy to offer his help.

At that moment, he realized how hard it must be for women.

Dane was sympathetic to the woman. He really, honestly just wanted to make sure that she felt safe. The situation was particularly informative and eye-opening to him because such situations rarely, if ever, happen to men.

It really helped him to have a new and improved perspective.

He then offered up an exceptionally kind gesture.

Not only did he walk the woman home after the incident, but he also went as far as to give her his number. He informed her that if need be, she could call him or his boyfriend any time, and they would be more than happy to come and walk her home to safety from the train station where the uncomfortable event took place.

She responded by telling the man that she might just have to take him up on the offer.

He even went the extra mile.

The man named Dane even went out of his way to make sure that she was truly alright by calling her later that night. Throughout the duration of their phone conversation, she couldn’t stop thanking him and offering up her gratitude for what he did for her.

She had really felt so much fear in the moment that she worried she wouldn’t make it back home to her son.

He had a kind face and a certain kind of energy.

When she noticed the men who were following her, she could sense that she was going to need his help. But she didn’t want to put anyone else, particularly other women, in the same dangerous situation. And unfortunately, the only other men that were around were being loud and rowdy, so she didn’t feel like she could trust them to help.

But when she spotted this man’s face, she had faith. He was smiling and she just had a hunch that she’d be able to trust him.

And lucky for her he was actually able to help!

Not only was he sweet enough to offer his help to this woman in need who was a complete stranger, but he was also the perfect person for the job. It turns out that he actually works as a counselor who specializes in sexual abuse; talk about fate aligning!

The woman later shared that it made perfect sense why he knew how to react so well.

He stepped up.

He recognized that so many women have to live in fear, and he did his part to help. He stated that it makes him sad that so many women regularly experience this sort of thing, but he swears that he’ll do everything he can to make the world a better place for women who have experienced this kind of danger.

We’re all so grateful for men like this.

We often hear these terrible stories about how men take advantage of women. But this one gentleman has proven to us that there are people willing to rise to the occasion and create change.
