Woman builds cat ladder so stray cats can enter her home for warmth and food

It’s hard to imagine what life would be like for a stray animal, especially if it’s somewhere where the climate is terribly cold. Şebnem Ilhan saw straw kittens every single day on the streets and decided to do something about it and help them out, even if it was just a small act. She figured out a brilliant way to help all of the stray kittens wandering around in her neighborhood.

The kind-hearted woman has always been a huge animal lover and just couldn’t stand the thought of homeless cats living on the streets at extremely low temperatures.

Ilhan works as a dentist in the city of Tekirdag, Turkey. While the country isn’t typically known for its colder climate, this specific winter season was abnormally harsh and cold. In fact, the country even dealt with snowstorms, which caused a lot of damage to the country. Nobody was really prepared, and the strays most certainly weren’t.

Stray cats couldn’t stand the cold, but Ilhan also didn’t really know how she could easily help all of the homeless cats.

Even though the wanted to provide all of the street kittens with some much-needed warmth, food, and water, she wasn’t home often and couldn’t just leave the door open for them.

Then one day, she had a brilliant idea.

She doctored out an idea that would allow stray cats to enter and leave her home as they pleased, no access to the front door needed and she didn’t even have to be home.

She started working on a cat ladder on her porch.

“It is very cold here this winter. My housekeeper and I are living in the warmth. I was sad and worried about the cats outside,” Şebnem said to Love Meow.

It’s an absolutely amazing and well-executed idea, and the stray kittens in the Turkish city absolutely loved it as well. It even looks pretty aesthetic and fits in well with the rest of the house – she also figured that she could combine the ladder with a few spots for flowerpots.

The window opening is small, but it is definitely large enough for all of the stray cats to fit through. Pedestrians also noticed the cat ladder, and they often snap pictures of feline four-footers using it.

“I made the ladder so the cats can come into my comfortable house,” she said to The Dodo. “I thought if I put some flower pots there, it wouldn’t bother anyone.”

The woman’s stance on animals and how we should help them is truly amazing.

“I try to help all the animals that I can find as much as I can,” Şebnem told. “I don’t think I have done much at all. I try to make a difference for the animals that I touch and see.”

“I wish no animal is hungry or thirsty, just happy. This world is not just for people.”

What an absolutely amazing woman who opened up her home to make the lives of stray cats better!
