Some people make the decision to stick with their partners long before they make the “in sickness and in health” vow. This boyfriend was one of them.

When Jillian Hanson turned 25, her life was going perfectly at last.

She had landed a great job and was deeply in love with her college sweetheart, Max Allegretti. She hoped that nothing would come in the way of either.

But then she got terrible news.

After a routine check-up, Jillian learned that she had cancer. She was obviously scared.

No one wants cancer. And she thought that it was only fair to give Max the option to not suffer with her.

Jillian told Max that it was completely understandable if he didn’t want to stay with her through her illness. He was still very young, after all, she reasoned. They had both said that they loved one another many, many times. But Jillian just kept on thinking that her journey would be a burden on Max.

But then Max surprised her, and not for the last time. He said that he had no intention of leaving her. He realized how special Jillian was, and he wouldn’t let an illness get in the way of their love.

From that moment on, Max was with Jillian every step of the way. For every chemo session, Max was there to give her support.

In fact, Jillian and Max experienced something unexpected from what they were going through. The cancer diagnosis was only bringing the couple closer together. In fact, they realized that they were truly meant to be with one another.

“He told me he felt like he loved me more after this experience. I definitely felt closer to him.”

And amazingly, Jillian started to respond well to the treatment. Pretty soon, her cancer was showing signs of remission.

After more than a year of fighting, Jillian was booked into what looked like her last round of chemo. And Max ensured that it would be a day to remember.

Jillian went into the hospital with all of her friends and family. They were having a party afterward. But then Max did something she wasn’t expecting.

When Jillian had completed her chemotherapy, Max got down in front of her on one knee. He pulled out a diamond ring and asked the words that he’d been desperate to say for years: “Jillian Gail Hanson, will you marry me?”

Jillian couldn’t believe her ears. She almost fell off of the chair in shock.

She said yes. And considering what they had been through, it was one of the easiest decisions of her entire life!

One year and a half later, Jillian was free from cancer, and she was ready to marry Max. She had a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Most brides are over the moon on their wedding day, but Jillian was especially happy. She had had to fight so hard for this, after all. And what was even better was that she knew she was marrying a man who would do anything for her.

Of course, Max is not a perfect person. Like anyone else, he has his flaws. But that he supported his wife through all this shows that he is incredible in many ways.

Hopefully, Max and Jillian are able to enjoy a long, happy marriage and achieve their dreams.
