Woman's smooth dancing shows what it really means to 'rock'n'roll'
Good dancing is hard to come by. While everyone is willing and able to “snap and swing” while out on the town with friends, it is the rare person who has legit skills and ability. This girl knows how to dance!
In a world focused on the next cool move, these dancers spend their time remembering the past through dance.
“Rock that Swing” festival has been celebrating the music and culture of the Swing and Rock’n’Roll era for over 15 years!
“For more than a decade the festival celebrates the diversity of the dances and music of the Swing and Rock’n’Roll era from the 20s to the 50s. Over a span of 5 days, fantastic dance nights, hot live music, shows, competitions, numerous workshops, dance masters from the 30s, and passionate dancers from all over the world create an inspiring and unforgettable atmosphere.” [RTS]
Many dancers come out to show off their skills. This girl wows the audience when she starts her performance.
Tanya delivered an incredible performance at the Rock That Swing Festival 2020. Showing us that dancing can be a call to the past, she dances to a classic.
The song, “Old Time Rock and Roll” showcases the message Tanya is trying to convey with her dancing.
Rock’n’Roll originated in the late 1940s as the evolution and combination of gospel, blues, and jazz. The song is a great choice for this performance for a few reasons. The first is that there is a difference between “Rock’n’Roll” and “Rock” music. Rock music came on the scene in the mid-’60s and distinguished itself from its predecessor, dropping the “n’Roll”.
One of the distinguishing factors of Rock was the introduction of the electric guitar. The Rock’n’Roll of old was mostly piano, sax, and snare driven.
Classic rock with roots in “Roll”
The song “Old Time Rock and Roll” was written in the ’70s, well within the Classic Rock era. The cool part is that it is piano-driven and shows its roots in swing and original Rock’n’Roll.
Choosing this song married the genres of Classic Rock, Rock’n’Roll, and Swing!
With this great combination, Tanya launches into an incredible routine that mirrors the message of her song. Implementing classic Swing and Rock dances with modern moves, she gracefully slides around the dance floor.
Opening the routine with Rock’n’Roll suave, Tanya soon jumps into Moonwalking across the floor when the music says “Disco”.
The audience can’t get enough as she expertly uses the entire stage to her advantage. Wearing knee-high white socks, white shorts, and an unbuttoned white shirt, she is the epitome of Rock’n’Roll dance.
Hitting certain dance moves when certain “trigger words” are said is an awesome element.
Throughout the performance, there are moments when the song says a particular word and Tanya mirrors it with a dance move. One of the first ones is her Moonwalking when Bob Seger says “Disco”. One of my favorites is when he sings “Rock and Roll” and she strums an air guitar! Check out the others in places where he sings “Tango” and “Funky old Soul”.
Bringing all of these elements together shows how you can appreciate classic cultures, their roots, and our own modern spin.
Through her dance moves, people are inspired to be more interested in Rock and Swing! Mission accomplished, Rock That Swing Festival!
