In this generation of dog owners, it’s rare to know someone who doesn’t sleep with their four-legged friend, wouldn’t you agree? Nowadays, instead of letting dogs sleep on the floor or on their own dog bed, they’d rather choose to sleep with them.

That’s when Catey Hall learned this about her father, Lon Watson.

At home, whenever she walks to her dad’s bed to check on him, he will always be there with their own dogs. However, he’s also accompanied by some of their neighbors’ dogs.

How is that possible?

“Dad sees, plays with, and naps with one or more of these dogs on a daily basis. They come running when they see his car and follow him inside,” Catey told The Dodo while explaining how things usually are at home between her dad and the dogs.

Turns out, Lon really loves dogs. In fact, he works with their local animal rescue, Pound on the Hill Animal Rescue. It is a non-profit organization that was officially established on August 15, 2016.

Lon has a soft spot for animals in need.

He and his wife have four dogs of their own, all of whom they rescued and rehabilitated. However, their home isn’t limited to their pooches alone because they also have neighbors’ dogs Fluffer, Rosie, Hooch, and Nutter.

These four are their regular visitors. They always come to their house to cuddle with Lon and since then, the relationship between them just blossomed like a flower.

Although they have their respective owners, these neighbor dogs will always wait for him.

Whenever the dogs hear Lon’s truck, they will ecstatically greet him at the driveway! Lon must really love coming home because of these jolly creatures.

“The neighborhood is an unincorporated section of semi-rural Alabama. The houses are set far back from the street, so the dogs can bounce from house to house safely,” Catey said.

How do his human neighbors feel about it?

Worry not because they are not bothered about it at all. They fairly know the importance of giving their dogs their playtime and naptime.

With his knowledge and fondness for dogs, Lon finds it easy to create a special bond with them. Actually, even his daughter’s dogs adore this “friendly neighborhood” fella.

“As a matter of fact, they try to leave with Dad when he’s here visiting,” she said.

We can’t blame Lon and his enigmatic charm toward dogs. It’s obvious that he loves dogs and his heart has a special spot for them. We need more kind people like him.
