Woman and dog thrill audience with emotional dance, earning over 10M views
If you are into the world of dogs, then you know about dog-dancing, or canine freestyle dancing as it is officially called. The dance style mixes obedience training with tricks and dance as human and dog dancers intertwine in intricate dance moves. The sport has become so popular that competitions have sprung up across the globe.
Competing at the Open European Competition in Germany
Sandra Roth and her dog Lizzy competed in a dog-dancing freestyle competition at the Open European Competition (OEC) in Germany in 2014. Their routine is one that involved many intricate twists and turns and left the audience stunned with its beauty and complexity. A jazz and ballet dancer, Roth thinks that dog-dancing is the perfect sport, especially if you are a dog lover like her.
Lizzy had a rocky start
But things weren’t always so graceful and as easy as the pair make it look. Believe it or not, Lizzy did not have the ability or patience to dance at first. On her profile, Roth talked about the difficulties she faced in training Lizzy to dance.
“Lizzy has been learning tricks and freestyle moves since she was a puppy. But we’ve had many problems and she was not an easy dog. So, our main focus for the first 3 years was on her social behavior and not on dog sports.”
Lizzy becomes a pro at dancing
Regardless of the difficulties that she faced; Roth never gave up on her dog. In the end, Lizzy, a border collie, was able to learn the skills she needed to complete the beautiful dance moves that she does today. Lizzy has also started to like the attention her moves get from the crowds who watch them.
The Last Unicorn
In 2014, the dance team entered the OEC in Germany where they performed admirably. Once the routine hit the Internet, people couldn’t get enough of it. The routine is set to music from the animated movie, The Last Unicorn. Dressed in an elegant white costume and unicorn horn, Roth moves gracefully across the floor.
The two weave a magical dance
Lizzy is quick as graceful as she matches Roth step for step. She mimics some of Roth’s ballet dance moves and even adds a few jumps and flares of her own. The routine results in a magical dance between owner and dog that delights the crowd and leaves them clapping for more.
People online are left emotional with one YouTube viewer posting:
“Amazing. That put a tear in my eye and another rolling down my cheek. Just lovely.”
Her dance moves are a testament that both put into training for the moment, resulting in a magnificent routine that was enjoyed by all. Catch the stunning dance duet in the video below.
