Woman born with facial deformity looks absolutely beautiful on her wedding day
It’s generally very important for a bride to feel beautiful on her wedding day. Some people spend thousands and thousands of dollars to make themselves ready for the ‘big day’. In the case of this wedding, there were hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on this bride for her to be her best.
Cody Hall from Northamptonshire, England was born to her parents Tony and Theresa Hall. The Halls had reason to believe they had a perfectly healthy daughter on the way. Besides, that’s what the prenatal tests indicated. So when the little girl was born, they were shocked to find she had a facial deformity.
The condition is called a hemangioma. This condition causes stem cells to become benign tumors. It was under Cody’s left eye and was so large it distorted her face. The doctors told the Halls there was nothing they could do.
Tony and Theresa wanted Cody to have a normal life and enjoy the things that normal people do.
They took her outside for walks, and they allowed her to be a kid and explore the world. The public, however, wasn’t so kind to the Halls.
“In England, our neighbor asked my wife if we put a bag over [Cody’s] head when we took her out,” Tony recalled for the Orlando Sentinel. “The hardest thing is the stares and comments from the ignorant people in this world who don’t understand what’s going on with her.”
As time went on, the condition only got worse. The Halls knew they wanted to change Cody’s appearance, as it would make her life so much easier.
When Cody turned six-years-old, the family took a trip to see Dr. David Apfelberg, a plastic surgeon located in Atherton, California. After multiple laser treatments, the doctor was able to remove Cody’s growth. The surgery left a lot of damage to her face and would still need additional surgery.
Cody went on to have a further 18 operations over the next 14 years, including facelifts, a rhinoplasty, skin grafts, liposuction, dermabrasion, eye surgery, and laser surgery. That’s a lot for anyone to endure.
All in all, the Halls raised over 376,000 dollars to afford these procedures. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Cody has been able to live a normal life. They couldn’t be more appreciative of those who helped.
“She looks much, much better now,” Dr. Waner announced. “If you saw her walking on the street, you would never know she had had any problems.”
Speaking about her experiences growing up, Cody said:
“When I started at secondary school I did get a lot of people asking questions and in the street, there would be people staring.
“All the attention would sometimes get me upset and I would come home and say I didn’t like it.
“But over the years people have realized I am who I am.
“I get people coming up to me in the street and saying ‘well done’ and that they are pleased for me.”
While enduring the surgeries, Cody, who works in a surgical ward at Kettering General Hospital. Where she met her now-husband, Lewis. The couple tied the knot in November of 2017.
Describing her big day Cody said she couldn’t hold back the tears.
“It was an emotional day and there were some tears, especially when I saw Lewis at the altar, but only tears of joy,” she said. “I just want to show people that there is a happy ending.”
