A woman delinquent on her rent gets text from landlord telling her to step outside
The outbreak of COVID-19 has left a lot of people out of a job and looking for some way to survive. With so many people out of work, many are struggling simply to put food on the table or a roof over their heads. One landlord is being lauded for his actions when it came to his tenants, and he is not the only one.
A landlord who cares
Landlord Nathan Nichols owns a two-unit dwelling in Portland, Oregon. With the current pandemic, his tenants are finding it a little hard to pay the rent. So, he decided to cut them some slack. He talked about what was going on and his response in a post on his Facebook page:
“COVID19 is going to cause serious financial hardship for service and hourly workers around the country. Because I have the good fortune of being able to afford it and the privilege of being in the owner class, I just let them know I would not be collecting rent in April. I ask any other landlords out there to take a serious look at your own situation and consider giving your tenants some rent relief as well.”
Helping his tenants out
The post was shared more than 24,000 times, with many applauding Nichol’s compassion and generosity. And while landlords have their own bills to pay and rely on the people they rent to for a steady income. Fortunately, there are relief programs designed to help landlords out who also need financial help.
Another landlord who cares
Nichols wasn’t the only landlord who is looking out for his tenants. Christina Marie, mother of four in Saginaw, Michigan, was struggling to provide food for her kids. Her children were stuck at home after their schools shut down, and she didn’t know how she was going to pay her bills. She was totally shocked when her landlord, named Alan, told her not to worry about the rent.
“SOOO My landlord Alan called me earlier and told me not to worry about rent this month and we will worry about it later. [I] said okay!” Marie posted on her Facebook.
Alan went out of his way to help Marie out
But Alan wasn’t done just yet. Marie posted about what he did next:
“Then he asked me if we had food. I told him how I had 3 packs of meat left and needed to go this week and he told me okay be safe. Then I get a text saying go to your front porch please!!! And I see this. I couldn’t tell you how I feel right now for him to do this for my family. My heart is so touched. GOD BLESS YOU.”

These landlords show just how much they care for their tenants and serve as an example of how we should look after each other, especially in these dark times.
