Of course, not all dogs allowed to enter stores or buildings, but when they have to wait outside and it’s freezing outside in the extreme cold, it’s an absolutely heartbreaking thing to see. The animals are left outside, waiting for their owners while they’re shivering and desolate, and there’s not really anyone around to help them out.

Luckily, for this pup who was waiting outside and tied to a tree, his owner didn’t want him to get cold so she did something that made all the people around them smile.

The owner was about to enter the post office, but only service dogs are allowed there.

She really needed to make a quick stop at the postal office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, so she tied her pooch to a tree. The weather was anything but great, and the pup would have to wait in the shivering cold.

Kristina Hollie was at a nearby bus stop waiting along with her coworker, and they couldn’t help but notice this cute four-footer and his owner. They kept a close eye on them, as they feared that the dog would be left alone in the cold.

People gave the woman some nasty looks while she tied her dog’s leash around the tree, but that all changed when the woman got down on her knees.

Luckily, the owner of the cute dog knew what kind of weather he would have to endure on his own – even if it was just for a few minutes. She took off her large puffer jacket, got on her knees to lean towards the dog and draped it all around him. She even made sure that it would stay snug and tight.

“Maybe she thought he would kick it off, so she bent down and zipped it up around him.”

It was also remarkable how the four-footer stayed incredibly still while his owner was busy keeping him warm with the jacket.

Kristina decided to wait until the woman returned from the post office because she had some kind words for her.

“As soon as she got up and walked past me, I told her that what she did was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. She just replied, ‘Thank you! I don’t want him to be cold!’”

It turns out that while the woman was in the postal office, a lot of passerby’s thought the sight of this cute pup in a puffer jacket was absolutely heartwarming and hilarious. A lot of them even stopped to snap a picture of the cute (and now warm) dog.

“I saw two or three other people walk past him and comment that he looked very cute and very warm.”

As soon as the bus arrived, Kristina then said goodbye to the adorable four-footer one last time as he was still casually hanging around in the winter jacket.

Not all dogs will get cold, as some breeds which thick and double-layered fur probably won’t even notice the low temperature. Huskies and Newfoundlands, for example, wouldn’t need a puffer jacket to stay warm. Smaller dogs and some races with thinner fur, however, that’s a different story.

According to Pet MD, whenever the temperature dips below the freezing point (32° F), it can potentially be dangerous for these smaller four-footers and dogs with a thin coat. When you’re going outside with a smaller pooch, a dog coat is recommended.

Luckily, that wasn’t really an issue here – as this dog was kept warm and didn’t have to shiver anymore.
