No one could catch giant stray Great Pyrenees but woman refused to give up
âWhoever saves a life, saves the world entire.â
In rural California, a large white dog was spotted moving from one house to the other. There were other sightings of him in other places where he could get something to eat.
No one knows where he came from â if he escaped or he was abandoned. After all, the dog is a Great Pyrenees, and itâs not a common breed for a stray.
Efforts have been made to contain the dog.
People in the neighborhood and agencies within the community tried to lure him, chase him, and corner him. But the hound, despite his size, has proved time and time again to be as slippery as a slug.
And it says a lot about his persistence in escaping. He may have become so distrusting and fearful of humans that heâd do anything just to get away from them.
One day, a dog rescuer saw him in the neighborhood.
The moment Megan saw the dog, she knew she wanted to catch him so she can start giving him the life he deserves.
When investigating the dog, she learned that he had to endure harsh temperatures that go as high as 110 degrees. More than that, some neighborhood dogs attack him too.
He might be a big dog in this big world but he should also belong to a family with big hearts. Megan then began tracking him down.
At first, she resorted to the most basic maneuvers.
Megan approached the gentle dog with a bag full of treats. She first tried to make him comfortable by bribing him with dog cookies.
The dog happily munched on the food but suddenly tensed up when he saw the leash. He smelled it for a moment, then he bolted away.
Megan didnât give up.
To help her with this endeavor, she enlisted the help of two friends. Danny Spanks from A SafeFurr Place Animal Rescue had experience in trapping animals so he drove to where the dog was last spotted.
He then lured the Great Pyrenees into a small fenced lot which turned out to be a small dog park. He closed the gate in on them and waited for reinforcements.
Courtney, meanwhile, is Meganâs friend from her hometown. She said he was adamant about catching the dog. Together, they managed to finally get him on a leash.
They named the dog âMilesâ after the distance he traveled over the past year.
As they were driving off, Miles looked behind him as if watching his past life get further and further, and smaller and smaller.
He was then endorsed to a shelter where he was medically assessed and fed. Finally, after months of being alone, his rehabilitation was starting.
Slowly but surely, heâs starting to foster trust toward humans once more. This time, he encountered souls that worked for his welfare and it was something he will definitely remember.
According to the shelterâs updates, he was eventually adopted.
Before his adoption, Miles adjusted well as he became much more comfortable with both humans and dogs.
The loving family who took him in also provided him with two brothers. For the rest of his life, Miles will know what love, safety, and companionship feel like.
