Woman spots man toting around cart full of dogs and helps turn his life around
You might be wondering why people become homeless.
They could have lost their job, had a home and lost it, been escaping an abusive relationship, or had mental or physical health issues.
Or maybe they were just children who didn’t know any better and were stuck in a bad situation.
Every homeless person has a different story.
Many of them were also once pet owners or simply loved animals.
Some people who are homeless either keep their pets or just take on the role of a guardian angel for stray animals, as did a homeless man named Steve.
Steve started residing on the street in 2001. By 2015, he had accumulated a cart full of stray dogs that he had brought with him on his travels.
He never left any of them behind.
The man set off in 2015 from California for Indiana, where his partner, who also loved animals, lived.
So he got on his bike, fitted a little cart to it, put his 11 dogs inside, and pedaled off.
He encountered a flat tire while traveling the 2,000-mile journey and had to stop to mend it.
It just so happened that 24-year-old Alicia was passing at the moment and spotted the man.
Steve caught Alicia’s attention.
She described what she had witnessed to her father when they were on the phone at the time.
After giving it some thought, they both agreed that even though it was somewhat dangerous, she had to stop and try to assist the man.
She did stop and walk over to the man.
She asked about his background, and Steve said that he had been homeless before picking up stray animals and now was going to Indiana.
Alicia was speechless after hearing his story.
The fact that he made no requests further made it plain to her that she just had to assist the man.
She stepped out, and when she came back, she had brought supplies and food for the dogs.
She also started a fundraising campaign for the man and his puppies on social media.
The response was overwhelming.
In fact, the fundraising enabled the homeless guy and his dogs to raise $35,000.
Additionally, Kelley Seaton, a resident of Tennessee, offered to take Steve and his pets to Indiana.
The man was in awe of his good fortune in finding such affection and assistance.
And it didn’t stop there.
He and his girlfriend were put in touch with Angela, a person who specializes in assisting homeless individuals with dogs, once he arrived in Indiana.
The dogs underwent medical examinations and spaying/neutering.
But the medical staff never gave the idea of taking them from the man who had been caring for them for the previous 14 years.
Taking the dogs away from Steve was just not an option.
Good Samaritans gave Steve a new trailer as a gift to ease his situation and ensure that he and his animal companions would never again be homeless.
Steve grappled with how to express his gratitude to everyone who helped in the rescue of him and his puppies.
This narrative serves as a reminder that doing good always has a way of coming back to you, one way or another.
