Woman invents brilliant hack to cut her dogs’ nails without any drama
Caring for your canine buddy brings many responsibilities.
It entails a multitude of tasks like feeding them and giving them water every day, walking them regularly, and cleaning up after them inside and outside, just to name a few.
Another task that can be daunting for some dog owners and dogs alike is cutting their nails.
Thankfully, though, one woman got creative to get the job done!
According to a story published in The Dodo, Lindsey Shelton had some time to spare while under isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This allowed for the creative side of her brain to create a rather silly, but partially effective way to cut her dog’s nails.
With saran wrap, peanut butter, and the will to succeed at cutting her dog’s nails, she sets her plan into action.
Wrapping her head several times with the saran wrap, Lindsey smears the peanut butter onto her forehead.
(If you are going to try this at home, make sure to use xylitol-free peanut butter. This will make sure to keep your furry friend safe.)
With the peanut butter applied and her head leaned forward, the first dog takes its place in front of her to put the idea to the test.
After the initial lick, the dog was all hers, and she was able to complete the trim job on all the nails of the front paws.
“Usually, it takes me and my husband wrestling him like a crocodile,” Lindsey said.
This is one way, but not the only way.
While using the saran wrap with peanut butter on your forehead trick to cut your dog’s nails may seem like the next best thing, there are a lot of other ways to get the job done.
For instance, have you ever tried cutting them when your dog is asleep? This seems to work for some people.
A simpler way to get the job done.
Another way to trim your dog’s nails is by using a special pet grinder according to AKC.org.
This will help prevent you from clipping them back too far with traditional clippers and cutting the nerve, which can be painful and make it even more difficult to clip your dog’s nails.
Start trimming their nails while they are young.
One of the recommendations from the AKC is to start handling your new puppies’ paws while they are young.
In the article noted above, they give an informative seven-day breakdown on how to create an inviting scenario to cutting your dog’s nails that will hopefully make it easy to trim them for its lifetime.
A more old-fashioned approach.
Using a traditional pair of dog nail clippers is still some pet owners’ preferred method.
Although you can accomplish more removal of the nails this way as opposed to the grinder tool, it does pose a higher risk of causing your puppy or grown pet pain or discomfort, thus making the process moving forward more difficult as time goes by.
If you can’t do it yourself, get help.
In the article published by The Dodo, Dr. Jerry Klein says:
“If you’ve never clipped a dog’s nails before, you may want to have your veterinarian or vet tech give you a lesson on how to do it.” Excellent advice Dr. Klein!
We’d like to thank all the vet’s and vet tech’s for caring for our beloved pets! Thankfully for us, they’re there to help when we can’t get as creative as Lindsey did with her pups.
