Woman gets locked out of her house- her clever cat comes to the rescue

Have you ever been locked out of your house? It’s really annoying, isn’t it? Plus you need to call someone to open the door for you and this can prove quite expensive.

Now, this is a story of a woman who was unlucky enough to get locked out of her house, but lucky enough to get her smart cat to help her.

Gabby Tropea is a college student from Austin, Texas. When she decided to walk her younger sister to school, she forgot to take her keys with her. Even worse, her sister had set the door to lock behind them when they left home. This was not how Gabby imagined her day would go- and she already started hating it.

Once she got back home, she started thinking of alternative ways to get into the house. Luckily, there was one alternative entrance- the back door. But that one, for safety reasons, was always secured with a stick.

β€œI got to the front door and Boko could hear me trying to get in,” Gabby told her interview with The Dodo. β€œHe started crying and scratching at the door.”

Thankfully, Gabby was not alone in her attempt to get inside. She had her best friend helping her from inside: Boko the cat. Boko used to be a stray at the university campus and Gabby had taken him home a year before. So, when she got to the patio door, Boko saw her and tried to help in whatever way he could.

β€œHe started rubbing his face on the stick and I was encouraging him to mess with it. I was coaching him to lift it up,” Gabby told The Dodo. β€œHe understood what I was trying to tell him and he started lifting it up!”

It was not an easy task for Gabby’s little furry friend, but Boko is a clever boy. He followed Gabby’s instructions, tried to rub his face on the stick until he removed it and the door opened.

Gabby got into the house and reunited with her best friend, who was extremely happy and proud of himself! Gabby gave him a treat to thank him and the two spent some time cuddling and snuggling.

Of course, while Gabby was giving Boko instructions on how to mess with the stick, she was also filming his attempts. Later on, she posted the video on Twitter and showed everyone how smart her pet is.

The video has been retweeted more than 148K times and liked by almost 560K users, who found their adventure adorable. Most of them commented on how lovely the cat’s reaction was, while there were some who just suggested their own cats would enjoy seeing them suffer. Why are we not surprised?

In any case, Boko’s reaction saved Gabby and, maybe this was his way to thank her for taking him in some time ago.
