Woman receives maximum sentence after nearly starving her dog to death

If we call dogs “man’s best friend”, how can some people be so cruel to them?

Animal cruelty has been a life-long issue globally. Sadly, with all the groups, advocates, and organizations, the cases related to animal abuse are still on the rise.

While most abusers go unpunished, in this story justice prevailed and was sweetly served.

A dog’s tragic tale.

Bogey is a pit bull owned by a heartless Ohio woman named Ashley Roderick. Unfortunately, the dog had not only a tough but a miserable life in the hands of his very owner.

The helpless dog was starved almost to death by Roderick. It’s definitely something a dog owner in the right state of mind wouldn’t do to a “best friend”.

Thankfully, Bogey was later surrendered to Lucas County Pit Crew. He was in pretty bad shape and his survival rate was yet to be determined.

He was more like a “skeleton” than a pit bull.

When Bogey was surrendered, he was so maltreated he could barely stand and only weighed 18 pounds. Though it was not clearly specified how long Roderick starved the dog, for him to become that thing, it must’ve been weeks or so.

We can’t really tell if there’s still a conscience in his owner’s head because what she’s done to Bogey was beyond ruthless.

His saviors didn’t give up on him.

Bogey was not just skinny and malnourished, he also had a ruptured right eye which needed to be removed by any means. However, given his health condition at that time, the starved dog didn’t have the capability to endure the eye surgery.

What they did first was help Bogey get back on his feet by regaining his strength. After a couple of months, he got back in shape and was then given the eye surgery that he needed.

Jean Keating, the executive director of the Lucas County Pit Crew said, β€œThe suffering that he has gone through was completely unnecessary and people need to realize there are consequences to doing that to someone else.”

A fresh start for Bogey and his second life.

His full recovery was far from over.

Soon, Bogey was sent to a foster home where he was showered with love and care. With the undying support and help that he was getting, he eventually recovered both physically and mentally.

Gone was the skinny starved dog, his playful side came out naturally like he hadn’t experienced suffering and pain before. Basically, Bogey’s once again back to being a dog.

The next thing they needed to face was waiting for justice to be served by making his previous owner pay for what she did.

His new “friends” were there to support him during the trial.

After several delays on the hearing, finally, the trial was set a year after his rescue. Members of the society, concerned citizens, and supporters, all showed up at court to show their love for Bogey.

“Going to sleep tonight thinking of the wonderful life I am living. Tomorrow my former owner, Ashley Roderick, goes on trial at 9 am and I hope the judge looks at my photos and understands the pain and suffering I endured. People tell me it’s a miracle that I am alive. I wasn’t ready for my story to end and with an entire crew behind me, I fought for my life. I hope tomorrow brings closure for my crew,” his “crew” wrote on a Facebook post a day before the trial.

At long last, justice was served.

Roderick was given a sentence of 180 days of minimum stay at a corrections center.

Not only that, but she also needed to pay all of Bogey’s medical bills, which summed up to a whopping $3,494.

A lot of people felt Roderick’s penalty didn’t suffice as payment for the cruelty she’s done to the poor dog. Nevertheless, we’re still glad justice was given to Bogey and that he’s off to a brand new start.
