Woman finds out she’s pregnant with twins then gets pregnant with a third baby 10 days later
You probably know someone who was a twin, or who gave birth to twins. It’s a big deal because it’s a huge amount of responsibility and work for any new parent, but it’s fairly common. About 1 in 250 pregnancies result in the birth of twins.
Triplets are far rarer.
About 1 in 10,000 pregnancies results in triplets being born. That makes it much less common than twins!
One first time mother found out she was going to have twins, but then she got an extra surprise.
10 days after she found out she was pregnant with twins, she then found out she had naturally conceived another child.
That meant she was going to have triplets!
She documented her journey on her TikTok– aptly named Taming Triplets. As part of this documentation, she also shared that doctors were worried about her ability to carry all of these babies to term. At 5ft tall, she had a small frame which make it hard to carry so many babies. There was huge potential for premature birth, which increased the potential for developing cerebral palsy and other developmental issues.
Carrying triplets decreases the space that each individual baby has to grow inside a woman.
During a pregnancy with one baby, the fetus has all the space to stretch out in the womb. But for Taming Triplets, it was far less comfortable for both her and the babies.
She explained that each baby had their own position. Triplet 1 pressed against her bladder, Triplet 2 was close to her bellybutton, and Triplet 3 was snug underneath her ribs. It definitely wasn’t comfy, but Taming Triplets found strength in her changing body.
This woman and her partner decided to keep all three babies, against medical advice.
Despite the stress and huge risks, they wanted to keep these babies. With each passing day, there were an increase of possible risks that could happen to her, but she remained upbeat.
In a post, she said:
“Every week I get bigger I think ‘I can’t stretch anymore…,’ and then I do!!! Women are warriors. I don’t know how I’m doing this.”
So, technically, these babies were not “Triplets”.
Because one of the babies had a different date of conception, she had two different due dates for the babies. She explained how this happened by writing:
“Normally your body is supposed to switch up your hormones and stop you from ovulating again once you’re already pregnant. In my circumstance it did not. About 10 per cent of women can ovulate twice a month. Only I think .3 per cent get pregnant a second time…So technically our babies do have different due dates, luckily they’re close enough that they will be born the same day, so they will all still be considered triplets.”
After posting throughout her pregnancy, her account went silent on March 24.
Her social media followers had been sending well wishes and love during her entire pregnancy, and she had amassed a large fanbase on Instagram and TikTok. So when she stopped posted for 9 days, people got worried.
She had given birth to 3 baby girls!
She had given birth prematurely. While mom was healthy, her babies had to stay in the NICU for the time being. She explained how she was finding her strength during this time by writing:
“My sweet girls…. you are fighters and showing your strength already. I still can’t wrap my mind around how delicate and tiny you are but so so mighty at the same time. We can’t wait to bring you home and get all 3 of you in our arms at once 💛 The NICU is the toughest journey for all 5 of us, but once we get through this together, then it will be all UP from here!”
Right now, all babies are still in the NICU, but it seems like they will be sent home soon.
Because the babies were born premature, they need to grow a little bit more before they are big and strong enough to head home. But they are doing great, and mom is there every step of the way to document their early days.
