Woman puts herself between an injured, shaking dog and its abusers who returned for more
Animal abuse is a horrible thing. Unfortunately, it isn’t illegal everywhere in the world. In locations where animals are abused regularly, their only hope is the kind individuals who intercede on their behalf. That’s what happened in this story, where a brave woman comes face-to-face with the abusers of a small dog.
An abused dog in need of a protector
The dog’s only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And, so, when the woman heard his yelps of pain, she rushed over to help him. Carrying a blanket, she wrapped it around his poor, beaten body, calling a local animal rescue to come and help him.
His attackers return
As she waited, his abusers returned for another round of beating. Bravely, the woman put herself in between the dog and his assailants. His attackers struck her for getting in their way, but eventually, they left. She waited until help arrived. Even then, the poor dog continued to cry out. The rescuers rushed him to the shelter to get the help he needed.
The dog was rushed to the animal shelter
After arriving at the shelter, the dog, which the staff named Souki, continued to lash out at his helpers. But who could blame him after the torture he had just endured? Giving Souki some pain medication and antibiotics, all they could do was wait for the vet to come to see him the next day. Finally, though, Souki fell asleep.
Souki gets the help he needs
As the vet examined him, Souki continued to lash out, thinking he was going to be beaten again. Finally, the vet is able to complete his exam. His prognosis, a damaged spine, and heartworm. He needs treatment, but first, he is fed. Scared, he snubbed the food he was offered. It would seem his abuse has been too much for him. He refused to make eye contact with his rescuers, choosing instead to look at the wall.
Souki begins the healing process
Eventually, he began to heal, physically and mentally. Souki began to realize that not everyone was like his abusers. It started with gentle, but brief, bouts of petting. He was even able to go into a foster home full time where he allowed his foster mom to sleep beside him. And while he initially cried out in his sleep, with time even that passed.
Souki is happy once again
Souki eventually healed enough to where he could sit and stand on his own, his fur grew back, and he seemed happier than ever. Fortunately, he had someone to look out for him when he needed it the most, but not all animals are so lucky. Here is a video of Souki’s journey from abuse to a healthy and happy dog.
