Woman accidentally rescues wild coyote thinking it’s a dog and bonds with it anyway

Being at the right place at the right time can mean so much, especially when you see an injured animal that needs your help.

Many kind-hearted people would go above and beyond to save the tiniest animal.

Maybe it’s our instinct to help.

This is exactly what happened to a young woman named Andrea Athie three years ago.

Athie was driving in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico when she saw the car in front of her hit a dog.

The car didn’t stop.

Instead, it quickly drove off.

Her heart sank.

Athie stopped her car, and she went out. There, on the road, she saw the poor dog lying on the ground and was not responding.

How can someone hit an animal and just leave it there?

The driver was heartless.

Athie couldn’t bear to leave the dog behind, even though it looked very weak.

She called back up and her friends were happy to assist her. They went to the scene and helped Athie lift the injured dog.

The dog was really heavy.

As soon as they got the injured animal in her car, they drove to the nearest veterinarian.

During the long drive, the helpless dog made whimpering sounds and sought refuge in the arms of Athie.

It’s as if the poor dog knew she was his savior.

The warm cuddle seemed like his way of saying thank you to the woman who never left him.

The rescuers took it as a “thanks”.

As soon as they arrived at the vet, the team of doctors admitted the poor dog inside the emergency room.

While they were waiting, one doctor asked for Athie.

There, the staff informed Athie that what she rescued was not a dog.

She rescued a coyote.

“Seeing the situation, I stopped and went to help him, without knowing that it was a coyote.” Athie recalled her experience in an interview with Mirror.

Can you imagine Athie’s face?

Coyotes are wild animals and are known for attacking humans.

Though they won’t do this unless they feel threatened or provoked.

Even though the coyote experienced being run over, it didn’t defend itself from Athie.

A wild snuggler

Knowing that they were wild animals, it was a surprise to see that the coyote showed its soft side.

In fact, in the short time that they spent together in the car, Athie and the coyote created the sweetest bond.

Also, the coyote looked like a big dog and even acted like one as he cuddled with Athie.

“He was never aggressive. He let himself be caressed but we all know that it is a wild animal and he couldn’t live with us.” Athie continued.

They named the coyote Pancho.

Pancho was a lovable coyote. Sadly, the poor animal sustained grave injuries.

He had two injuries on his cervicals, and this made it difficult for poor Pancho to respond to treatments.

“Every procedure that was performed on Pancho was through a veterinarian and professionally done,” Athie recalled.

Everyone wanted Pancho to live, and they did their best.

“Unfortunately, Pancho could no longer continue fighting with us. Pancho simply did not respond to treatment.” Athie shared, “Everything was done humanly possible. In that last moment, I looked at him and wanted him to have the best possible quality of life and not suffer.”

Everyone felt sad as Pancho, the sweet coyote closed his eyes.

Being with Pancho for such little time taught everyone a lesson that they will remember forever.

“Pancho came here to show us how to help those who need it. With small acts we can change many things and Pancho showed us that.” Athie said in her interview.

Athie and Pancho bonded in such a short time, but the coyote’s memories will be treasured for a lifetime.

If you see an animal in need, don’t hesitate. Help.
