Woman who searched for dog over 9 months doesn’t stifle emotion being reunited 300 miles away

What would you do just to get your best friend back?

Christine Lindsey entered an animal shelter fanning her tears from her eyes.

One can only imagine the pain she’s going through, especially when it’s about the loss of someone so dear to her.

Her beloved dog had gone missing.

She lost her best friend, a tiny pooch named Sissy. She thought she’d lost her for good until she received a phone call that would change everything.

Lindsey was traveling in Chattanooga.

That’s when a heartbreaking event occurred.

Originally from Memphis, Lindsey left Sissy in her car for a short while. When she came back, her Lhasa apso was not there anymore.

She combed the area and desperately asked about Sissy. Despite her best efforts, she had no choice but to eventually call off the search.

Days turned into months.

She still didn’t receive any news. Anyone would’ve given up at this point but Lindsey held onto a sliver of hope, no matter how small it seemed.

She held out hope for 9 months.

9 months after losing Sissy in Chattanooga, her phone rang. She talked to someone who worked for Fulton County Animal Control.

Kim Meeks, the woman who called Lindsey, scanned a rescued dog’s microchip.

Meeks would’ve been dumbfounded when she first scanned the microchip because the dog doesn’t belong anywhere near the area.

In fact, Sissy was rescued in Atlanta, Georgia.

It was miles from her starting point in Chattanooga.

Thankfully, with these safety precautions in place, Meeks was able to contact Lindsey.

“It took me about 5 minutes to convince her that I had her dog. And she kept asking, ‘Well, how did she get there,” Meeks said to 11Alive.

After looking for Sissy for 9 months, it was indeed surreal to find her in the most unexpected place.

“I still didn’t believe her. I still didn’t believe her,” Christine said, as quoted by 11Alive.

Without skipping a beat, she made her way to Georgia enduring hours of driving.

Then, when the prospect of finally reuniting with Sissy washed over her, she couldn’t help but cry.

It was an indescribable relief.

Lindsey was crying when she got to hug her little Sissy once more.

People were almost sure that they would never see each other again. But here they are, in an animal shelter so far from home, sharing all the belated embraces.

Sissy wasn’t just a pet for Lindsey.

Sissy has been with her in her toughest times and on the best days.

Her dog was beside her all throughout her battle with cancer. Sissy was also there in Lindsey’s biggest heartbreak – she gave her comfort when she lost her son.

It didn’t take long before Sissy recognized Lindsey and it was just kisses from there on.

Sissy had suffered scratches and wounds. Her fur was also badly matted from months of being out alone with no one to take care of her.

We’re pretty sure, however, that she’ll receive all the pampering she missed out on.

Right now, the most important thing is after months of wandering, she finally found her way back home.
