Woman breaks down how much she spends on her German shepherds every year

German shepherds are one of the most popular and beloved dog breeds.

Caring for them isn’t cheap, however.

Being a responsible pet owner and providing a home for German shepherds carries a lot of responsibilities.

A woman recently shared to the Facebook group “Life with German Shepherds” just how much money she spends annually on her two GSDs. What she revealed is surprising to some but not necessarily to other owners of German shepherds.

The woman begins her post with a simple message reminding everyone that it is important to do your research before adopting a pet.

“So you think you want a german shepherd? please remember how important it is to do your research before choosing a breed to bring into your home! dogs are an expensive life long commitment but the joy they bring into our lives is worth it all!” she wrote.

Owning German shepherds requires a lot of work but the love they give us in return makes it all worth it.

The benefits of living with German shepherds.

German Shepherds are one of the most loyal dog breeds out there. They are also some of the most fun.

“They are loyal, intelligent, and fiercely beautiful… but also giant goofballs,” the woman says about her pets in the video.

If you want a dog who will want to be around you all the time, then a German shepherd is possibly the right breed for you.

“Can’t forget to mention that GSDs are velcro dogs. They want to be with you 24/7,” the woman explains.

How much exercise your German shepherd requires.

If you love to exercise with your dog then you’ll likely enjoy owning a German Shepherd. They require daily workouts and lots of activity. They have a strong work ethic but also require ongoing training.

“A GSD’s work ethic is legendary and needs to be encouraged through ongoing training. They make excellent hiking buddies and need lots of daily exercise regardless of the weather. I exercise mine about 1.5-2 hours a day usually in the morning and night.”

“We do a combination of fetch, obedience, nose work, and hiking. Mostly all off-leash.”

Things to know before adopting a German shepherd.

There are some things prospective adopters should know before deciding on welcoming a German shepherd into their home, however.

“They shed A LOT! GSD tip: avoid black clothing.”

“Regular grooming is important and starting from a young age makes it much easier but like I said…GSDs are stubborn.”

They also tend to be fairly stubborn, dramatic, and sometimes rather loud.

“GSDs are 100% stubborn and equal parts dramatic.”

“They tend to be vocal and like to sing the song of their peoples often.”

How much does it cost to feed 2 German shepherds?

The woman in the video noted that she feeds her two German shepherds a raw meat diet. This can get rather expensive.

“Feeding a quality diet can be very expensive. We feed J&J can all raw diet. The ratio consists of 75-80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, 5% liver, 5% other secreting organs.”

“I spend roughly $500 CAD monthly on their raw diet & supplements.”

As of this writing, $500 CAD is currently valued at $398.26 USD.

“My dogs have their own freezer,” she added.
