Woman rescues deformed dog then receives the sweetest “thank you”

Angela Adan is an animal lover and self-professed “dog healer” from Tehachapi, California.

She’s used to rescuing unwanted by deserving animals from shelters, so it rarely makes her emotional anymore. But after driving four hours to pick up a little pup named “Freddie Mercury” in December of 2018 she couldn’t help but tear up at the sight of her.

Freddie was not only tiny and skinny but has a paw that splays out to the side, making her unable to walk normally. She had also just had 17 teeth removed when Adan first met her.

Things got even more emotional when Adan brought Freddie back home and noticed that her front limbs were so deformed that she could do little more than flail on the ground. The idea of this tiny creature’s suffering up until that point broke her heart.

But as we all know, the only thing to do at that point is to try to help – and Adan had lots of love and patience to give the pup.

Upon picking her up off the ground and wrapping her back in her blanket, little Freddie showered her new mom with kisses and face presses to show her appreciation.

“There are moments when I know that dogs are truly thanking me and this was absolutely one of those moments. She knows she’s safe and cared for now,” said Adan in a video posted by The Dodo.

While caring for Freddie will come with hefty medical expenses, owner and dog are now inseparable.

Adan credits little Freddie with helping her to live in the moment and not worry about anything else.

“She so deserving, just like they all are, but there’s something very special about this little one. She looks at your with pure gratitude.”

The little pup now has a loving home AND a huge social media following. In less than a year since she’s been adopted, she’s already amassed over 294k followers on Instagram. That might be partly thanks to Freddie’s awesome T-Rex impersonation:

While Freddie is never going to look like a normal dog, it’s clear that her well-being has improved greatly over the last year.

In a Facebook post, Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, which first took in the pup, told her backstory:

“Freddie was found as a stray underneath a car and got turned into a shelter. How she survived the cold weather we have no idea. She then had 17 teeth extracted as she still had a row of deciduous teeth in front of her adult teeth. During her dental the veterinarian discovered she had no epiglottis which is the flap at the back of the throat that opens and closes to prevent fluid from going into her lungs. Sometime before we got her she had aspirated and developed pneumonia. She was in pretty rough condition the first three days we had her as she was sick, malnourished and lethargic.”

They described her limbs as something they couldn’t do much about, but thanked Adan for seeing past her deformities and giving her a great life:

“Freddie now has a very different outcome then what could have happened to her had she not been found under that car. This little pup brings joy and inspiration to everyone she crosses paths with.”

Fast forward one year and Freddie is now queen of the castle in a house full of love and other previously unwanted pets.
