Transforming a kitchen base cabinet to a wonderful, roll-out organizer for only $10

Forget about crawling on the floor to find something at the back of your kitchen cabinet. Cleaning it will also be a lot easier. How? Do you know how drawers make things more simple than stuffing it all in a cabinet? Well, this is similar, you’ll simply put some roll-out shelves in it. Next time you need something, roll that shell out, and everything is at your reach.

It’s one of those simple projects, that will instantly be on your to-do list, as soon as we explain it in detail.

You’ll need a saw, a drill, a drawer slide, a level, a tape measure, and some shim material

It’s recommended to use a circular saw, but a table saw, or a jigsaw will do the job, too. First, remove those existing fixed shelves from the cabinet. You’ll use them later, don’t throw them away, just take them out. It doesn’t matter if they’re fixed, or on shelf pins, that’s not good enough. You want to be able to pull them out completely, that’s why we’re doing all of this.

Pay attention to one important detail: is your cabinet frameless, or a face frame on?

A big difference between the two types of cabinetry is that the face frame requires an extra step at the very beginning. Remember the shim material – now is the time to use it. Because of having that frame, if you put a drawer slide inside, and then try to pull something out of a cabinet – it’ll get stuck because of the frame.

We need to level things here. After adding those shims, then measure the width of the cabinet. Then take those shelves back, and adjust their dimensions. Now add those drawer slides.

See if the shelf fits and if you can pull it out? You’re done. All steps are very simple. See how you didn’t waste your shelves. You’ve simply turned them into a pull-out kitchen element that adds more function, and accessibility to your kitchen cabinets.
