Woman warned that dog ‘isn’t worth saving’ but she refuses to listen
Natural selection is supposed to weed out the weak, the stupid, and the unnecessary life forms on this planet.
But, it doesn’t always work.
It certainly didn’t get rid of the cold, uncaring people who told a woman named Molly that the dog she rescued wasn’t worth saving.
When Molly first caught sight of a stray pup hanging around the side of a busy Alabama highway, she knew she had to do something.
But everything she was taught about approaching strange animals went out the window the moment she saw him!
The American Humane Society recommends that you should never chase an animal. Instead, “always approach stray animals slowly and cautiously while speaking in a calm, gentle voice.”
Molly, however, jumped out of her car and ran across the road in an attempt to save the dog from running into traffic and becoming seriously injured.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have any food on her to coax him to come closer.
So, she improvised and pretended the pack of gum she was holding was a treat.
When the pup came within reaching distance, she scooped him up in her arms and carried him to safety!
The grateful pooch gave her lots of kisses, and Molly thought she had done a good deed.
But, naysayers warned her that because of his breed, she should have just left him to die.
“It’s natural selection, that’s why he’s out there,” they said.
Thankfully, Molly refused to listen!
“I looked him in the eye and I was like, ‘I promise you I will get you out of here and I promise I’m gonna keep you safe.'”
Both animal control and the local shelter suspected the dog was abandoned because he was a pittie.
As you probably already know, pitbulls are one of the most misunderstood dog breeds on the planet.
They deserve love and attention, too, but they’re often maligned because of bad owners.
When he was rescued, Polo was in terrible condition, a testament to just how little he’d been loved up to that point in his life.
His coat of fur was scrappy, and he was wearing a collar that was three sizes too small.
Molly wanted nothing more than to welcome him into her home, but adopting him wasn’t going to be an easy process.
You see, Molly is from Massachusetts, and Polo was found in Alabama.
There are laws in place to make sure that owners have a chance to claim strays before they are put up for adoption.
You can’t just grab them and keep them.
After waiting an entire month, Polo was finally cleared for transport to his forever home in Massachusetts.
But, there was one last hurdle he had to go through: Molly’s dad.
The family already had four rescues, and he didn’t think she should add any more furbabies to their growing brood.
Fortunately for Polo, it was love at first sight!
The two boys were practically glued together from the get-go, always cuddling and playing with each other.
There were even times Molly’s dad would lie down on their concrete driveway, right next to his new buddy.
Despite his rough start in life, he’s now a well-loved, happy-go-lucky pup!
