Utah is one of the country’s great outdoor states, with its beautiful canyons, fabulous ski resorts, and incredible national parks. You can visit this popular state with your family. Experience a fun road trip to see the best sights. If not, you can try different outdoor adventures such as camping, hiking, and mountain biking.
However, one woman’s camping trip turned into a headline in the media and newspaper.
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Utah is its National Parks. From the Zion National Park to the Arches National Park, these locations offer a stunning view of different rock formations and 2,000 natural arches. Other people choose to camp at the Diamond Fork Canyon.
The Diamon Fork Canyon is a perfect spot to go camping with your friends and family.
You can book a place on one of their camping ground and visit the hot spring. The Diamond Fork Hot Springs trailhead is located about an hour’s drive from downtown Salt Lake with the last 10 miles being on a well-maintained dirt road. From Salt Lake City you will drive to Spanish Fork and take the exit until you reach Diamon Fork Road.
Then about 10 miles, you can reach the signed trailhead parking lot. Most tourists go unharmed when visiting the place. However, not for one woman.
A 47-year-old woman went missing in the Diamond Fork section of Utah’s Spanish Fork Canyon for more than five months.
The woman had been missing since late November of 2020. According to the Utah Country Sheriff’s Office (UCSO), The US Forest Service Officials were preparing for seasonal canyon closures when they found a car in a parking lot in the Diamond Fork area of Spanish Fork Canyon. They also found the camping equipment of which they used to help identify the person.
Based on the telephone information, they believe that the woman might be in Colorado. They also tried to reach out to contact a family member but were unable to. Reaching out to the woman’s former co-workers, they were unsuccessful in locating her.
For five months, the Detectives and Search and Rescue officials with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) searched for the missing woman.
However, they were unsuccessful despite searching by ground and by air. On May 2, 2021, a UCSO sergeant and some representatives of a nonprofit aerial search organization returned to Diamon Fork to find the missing woman. During the first pass, the drone crashed.
“During one of the first passes, the drone crashed and the Sergeant and drone pilot set out to find the drone,” the release said. “As they walked into the hills they found a tent that they believed was abandoned.”
Eventually, the zipper to the tent opened and they came face to face with the missing woman!
The woman had lost a significant amount of weight, but she was alive! Apparently, she was not only a survivor but also a resourceful person too. She did have a small amount of food with her that she stretched over the months.
The woman survived on moss, grass, and river water.
“But we want to be clear that while many people might choose to not live in the circumstances and conditions this woman did, she did nothing against the law.” said the Sheriff’s office.
Due to the woman’s condition, she was taken to a hospital for mental health evaluation. So, if you know of anyone who needs help or struggling with mental health, reach out to the correct authorities. Encourage them to get professional help.
