A few days ago, a video was posted by The Dodo on Facebook, showing a woman patiently trying to befriend a stray cat that was roaming her backyard.

In the video, we can watch the evolution of their relationship from the very first day the woman spotted the ginger kitty in her yard. It was already winter and it had been snowing, so the cat, cold and hungry, was eating bird seeds to fight starvation. From the very first moment, the woman knew she had to take him in.

“I knew I had to have him. I knew I had to get him inside where he was warm and safe and loved,” she told The Dodo.

Then, several days passed by and the kitty hadn’t shown up in the woman’s backyard again, until, one night, she went outside only to find it curled up by the furnace. Of course, the cat, who wasn’t used to interacting with humans, just ran away without giving the woman the chance to feed or pet him.

For the next week, the kitty was coming back but used to run when the woman tried to feed him. Eventually, she made a little shelter for him out of the dog carrier and some towels. This made for a warm home for the stray kitty, and he immediately loved it. He went in and started feeling more comfortable around the woman over time.

“He used the cat hut every day. I’d go out there every day and feed him and he just started eating and feeling a little more comfortable around me.”

Still, it was too early for the cat to get closer to the woman- he was obviously scared and not ready to open up just yet. He would hide in the bushes at first, but then the two started building some kind of bond. One day he even got inside the house- probably to just “check things out”- but then he decided it just wasn’t the right time yet.

Until right after Christmas, when he made up his mind and got in the house- this time for good!

The woman couldn’t believe it, the cat she had gotten to love after all this time was right there in front of her, ready for cuddles and pets!

The woman and her family were surprised by the fact that the kitty was so playful and friendly towards them. And, not only that, he also became friends with the family dog Kermie who is about his size. The two of them are now besties.

“They are always together,” said the woman, “They sleep together, they cuddle together. I think he is grateful.”

The family named their new kitty Hot Dog and he even has his own accounts on Twitter and Instagram, and he seems to be really enjoying it!
