Woman's hilarious face illusion make-up is perfect for quarantine
When better makeup products were introduced a few years back, it meant that the particularly skilled beauty enthusiasts out there could create astonishing works of art on their own faces.
But makeup isn’t only used to make people look beautiful. It can also be cleverly applied to create comedic or disturbing illusions, many of which look so realistic that you have to blink twice to understand what you’re really seeing.
We haven’t seen a new makeup challenge in a while, probably because they’ve pretty much all been done by now. But there is one advantage to the surge in demand for face masks in recent months: it has inspired one woman to create her own hilarious face illusion challenge.
Jamie French is a YouTuber who is known for her incredible makeup skills. She treats her nearly 200k subscribers to the standard “get ready with me” and “new product testing” videos – but she also shares her more humorous videos, such as her Carole Baskin’s makeup challenge, videos with her husband, and even, bizarrely, a video of her pets doing her makeup.
Recently, Jamie took her creativity to a whole new level, and created a video that’s perfect for anyone who’s sad about not being able to show off their lipstick underneath their face mask while out and about. Her solution? To create a whole new set of tiny lips, positioned just in the end of her nose, to flaunt her lipstick in a less conventional way.
Jamie had seen the challenge in various parts of the internet over the past few years, but she knew she could really make it her own now that she could apply it to a real-life situation.
Her makeup look really is an illusion. Although it looks as if she’s drawn the little mouth just below her nose, she’s actually drawn a much smaller nose onto her nose, then added the lips just below!
She had to do some clever contouring to make her whole face look smaller.
She was able to make her new lips “open” and “close” by drawing the bottom lip just beneath her nostrils.
Of course, no lips would be complete without a slick of bright lipstick, and this is really what makes Jamie’s nose-lips look realistic.
She then finished off the rest of her makeup. The look is still impressive like this, when her actual mouth is on show, but it looks all the more realistic when her mouth is covered up.
When Jamie positions a scarf over the lower half of her face, we’re half-convinced that her new tiny pair of nose-lips are going to start talking instead.
Now this is how to do makeup in quarantine! Whether she intended to or not, Jamie has solved a very small world problem. The drawers full of abandoned lipsticks around the world can be put to use once more.
We can all get to work creating our own tiny sets of lips to wear just above our face masks – though it would mean having to position your face mask underneath your nose, instead of actually covering it, which wouldn’t be the safest of things to recommend right now.
Perhaps this look is better off saving for creating on-screen amusement only, as Jamie has succeeded in doing.
Either way, it’s a challenge worth trying out if you’re bored at home with plenty of unused makeup going spare!
