The ecotourism resort Repère Boréal lies tucked snugly within the Charlevoix mountains, half an hour outside of Quebec, Canada. The project contains a handful of micro houses set deep within the woods, featuring sleek, modern architecture and a handful of unique amenities.

Two brothers founded the project, ensuring proper integration between the sites and nature. Mashk, which means “bear” in the indigenous language of Innu, constitutes one of the area’s most brilliant getaways, featuring a wall of windows and immaculate rooftop view. Black bear sightings are pretty common in this neck of the woods.

The building takes full advantage of natural sunlight, containing two stories of a single glass wall that allow for optimal natural heating and comfortable sightseeing. The orientation allows one to enjoy the scenery without sacrificing any privacy.

The inside viewing area features a futon for two and a grassy rug. A steel rail runs along the staircase to the second floor. The glass windows are truly massive, providing an illusion of extra space within. Although compact, Mashk appears extraordinarily spacious.

The home comes furnished with an ergonomic fold-up dining table and curved chairs. The eggshell white color of the walls and furniture contrast with the natural brown wood to create a modern rustic aesthetic. Dark grays and blacks are also commonly featured throughout the structure. The chic concrete floors tie the entire room together – simple and tasteful.

A compact, yet incredibly powerful kitchen contains all the cooking necessities. A modern toaster, oven, and refrigerator fill out the space without detracting from the tone. The wooden cupboards match the ceiling perfectly. Adjustable spotlights line the space directly above the kitchen counters.

Colorful dishes and crystal clear glassware cover everything from a simple wine night to a formal, three-course meal.

The upstairs features a queen-sized bed tucked within a beautiful wooden framework. The sheets look pristine white, adding to the simplistic ambiance and tone of the Mashk. A nearby glass partition allows for views downstairs while providing comfort and safety to those atop.

The ceiling features spotlights across beautiful brown wooden beams, providing just enough color contrast to stimulate the viewer. Plus, outdoor access lies a few feet away.
