Panda cubs are just like any other baby animal. They need to be in the best environment possible so that they can grow healthy and strong. This is one good reason why the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has people looking after their baby pandas.

Looking after baby pandas might sound like an awesome job- and it is!

As a panda nanny, you’ll be able to work with cute cubs every single day. You’ll be able to play with them and see them grow.

However, like any other job, being a panda nanny comes with a lot of challenges.

One of them is the cubs’ naughtiness and Nanny Mei can attest to that. A video showing her day at work can serve as proof.

In the video, Nanny Mei was standing outside the enclosure.

Holding the doors closed, she used one hand to throw her colorful broom over the wall. It was her attempt to distract the five adorable cubs waiting for her.

Her trick worked!

When their attention was on the tool, she immediately got inside the enclosure and locked the gate. Panda cubs are curious creatures and Nanny Mei knows that.

Once inside, she was faced with a new problem.

The cubs were so attracted to the broom that Nanny Mei had to wrestle the cubs just to get it back.

One of the cubs was holding the broom so tightly that it pulled the head right off of it.

Fortunately, Nanny Mei was able to get her broom back.

The bad news? Well, the pandas found her basket full of leaves. It instantly became their new toy. They were pushing it and tipping it over. They clearly wanted the leaves inside it.

It was Nanny Mei against the determined baby pandas.

There’s no way she could clean up the area and sweep away the leaves with a bunch of pandas running after her basket. Each time she filled her container, the pandas were right there to spill the leaves again.

It was hard work!

However, even though the job was hard, Nanny Mei didn’t complain. Although there was a hint of frustration on her face, she didn’t give up. She’s quite dedicated to her work. Plus, she must have been used to the cubs’ playfulness, too.

Nanny Mei’s playful fight with the panda cubs earned positive reactions.

Most of the viewers applauded her patience and dedication. One of them said:

“The nanny is like a mother dealing gently with her boisterous children.”

Another one commented:

“They’re so smart. They weren’t interested in the basket until they saw she was using it 😂😂😂”

A viewer reacted:

“This nanny is so cute. She must be exhausted at the end of the day!”

Taking care of pandas isn’t as easy as you think.

Apart from dealing with such playfulness, one also needs to have patience and diligence. One of the goals is to make the cubs comfortable around humans, so keen eyes are required. You need to know how to pay attention to small details.

Cleaning the cubs’ living area isn’t the only thing their nannies do. They also have to feed them several times a day. Like sweeping the leaves, those tasks must be equally hard (and fun) to do.
