The world’s oldest cat will soon be celebrating yet another birthday

It’s pretty much a given that we outlive our pets, cats and dogs simply don’t live as long as humans do. On average, the indoor cat lifespan is around 13 to 17 years according to the ASPCA. However, it’s definitely not uncommon to see cats who get to be two decades old or even older.
Even though there are outliers, there’s one cat alive today that has definitely been alive for a lot longer than his owners would’ve thought.
Meet Rubble, an adorable orange-white feline who recently celebrated his 32nd birthday.

That’s right, Rubble was born back in May of 1988 – he’s a true 80’s kid!
This ginger-white tabby has been around for over three decades and his owners are always making preparations for his next birthday.
Mom, Michele Foster, says that the secret is showering your cat with love. We’re pretty sure that Rubble is absolutely lucky to have such a warm and loving home.
“If you care about something and someone and really love them, that goes a long way. I have always treated him like a child – I don’t have any children and had another cat called Meg – who passed at the age of 25. If you care about something, no matter what it is, it does last,” mom said to Bored Panda.

She also shared some comparison pictures of Rubble back in 1988, and even though he’s certainly grown older, he’s still just as adorable!
If there’s one thing that has changed over the years though, is that Rubble seems to have gotten a little bit grumpier.
“He’s a lovely cat, although he has got a little grumpy in his old age.”
Rubble first entered Michele’s life when she was just twenty years old and started living on her own. She heard about a new litter with kittens and figured that she could use some company.
She definitely didn’t expect to still have Rubble around her all these decades later, but she certainly doesn’t mind.

“He was part of a litter of cats that my sister’s friend had and I had just left home,” she said. “I was lonely living on my own so got him in as a kitten.”
For his thirtieth birthday party in 2018, Michele and the staff at City Vets Exeter decided to throw a huge party.
After all, 30 is a very special age for felines, and it definitely had to be celebrated.
“He enjoyed a free check-up, some Whiskas Catmilk and Felix pouches, and less appreciated a free supply of medication for the next month as his birthday present from City Vets,” Dr. Shaun Moore from the animal center said.
As it turns out, Rubble is still a few years away from winning a champion title…

Rubble currently holds the title for “the world’s oldest cat alive” at 32 years old.
Rubble still doesn’t hold the title of the oldest cat ever, as that record belongs to the French feline Crème Puff, who became just a little bit over 38 years old. He was born in August 1967 and lived until 2005.
Rubble isn’t keen on getting too much attention or fame, he just likes to live his happy life along with his owner Michele.
“He is old now and would not like too much attention or be hassled. We would prefer if he was just left to live out his old age in peace,” she said.
