Meet Zeus – the Great Dane who just earned the title of 'World's Tallest Dog'

Ever wondered what a real-life Clifford the dog looks like?

A family in Bedford, Texas doesn’t need imagining. In their house, kitchen counters became tables and kitchen sinks became dog bowls.

There’s nothing this dog could reach and attention he can’t get. This record-breaking dog is truly a sight to behold.

Meet Zeus, Guinness World Records title holder for the world’s tallest living dog.

At just two years old, Zeus stands at a jaw-dropping 1.046 meters or 3 feet and 5 inches. To put that into perspective, Zeus has the same height as a standard kitchen counter, half a refrigerator, or a small kid.

Zeus received the recognition last March 22 after his vets confirmed his height. Zeus is a Great Dane, a breed that is especially known for its size.

Brittany Davis, Zeus’ mom, has always wanted to own a Great Dane.

One can only imagine her excitement when her brother gave her a pup when it was just eight weeks old. In an amazing stroke of luck, her brother had a colleague who breeds them. Davis said that at that moment they already know that Zeus will become a handful.

“He’s been a big dog since we got him, even for a puppy. He had huge paws.” She said to CNN.

An average Great Dane stands at around 2.5 feet for males and 2 inches for feet. However, Zeus exceeded all that.

At first, Brittany was nervous about keeping a dog his size.

Great Danes were originally bred for hunting larger game like hogs and deer. Then, they were used to protect women in carriages. Their strides are so big that they can run alongside them.

Zeus, however, is much more accustomed to the laid-back life. He loves lounging around and is only excitable when he’s trying to steal food on the counter or his baby brother’s pacifier.

Zeus is also a local celebrity.

He spends most of his days walking around the neighborhood, especially the local farmer’s market. Davis shared that he spends so much time at the Dallas Farmer’s Market that he became sort of a local celebrity.

“The comment that we hear most often is ‘Wow, that’s a horse!,’ ‘Can I ride him?’ or ‘Does he have a saddle?'” she said to Guinness World Records, “”The answer to all those questions is ‘no.'”

Davis also knows that the bigger the dog, the bigger the trouble.

Any food that’s left on the counter is open season and no fence is too high if he ever wants to talk to his next door best friend.

Feeding the beast also comes at a cost. Zeus gulps down six cups of “Gentle Giants” large breed dog food in the morning then another set in the afternoon. His a big lad so he needs to be fueled right.

The idea to reach out to Guinness World Records came up during a family gathering.

They pondered on whether Zeus is taller than the former tallest dog. They didn’t think it was possible until they went ahead and measured him.

“This has been a whirlwind and unexpected. We never thought we would own the largest living dog.” Davis shared. “We get a lot of comments like ‘Wow, that’s the tallest dog I’ve ever seen’, so it’s cool to now be able to say ‘Yes, it’s definitely the tallest dog you’ve ever seen!'”

Coincidentally, the former titleholder is also a Great Dane named Zeus.
