Mom finds out 12-year-old son is sneaking behind her back to do good deeds in community
The world doesn’t tend to expect too much from you when you are a young kid. You obey your parents, go to school, and be nice to people — that’s it. No one expects you to fix major problems because you are only a kid.
But in April 2019, a 12-year-old by the name of Monte Scott decided to fix a major problem in his neighborhood and he did it all on his own. No one asked him to do it — he simply saw a need and felt motivated to fill it.
It all started when Scott’s mother, Trinell, hit a massive pothole in their hometown of Muskegon Heights, Michigan. It managed to give her a flat tire and wreck her axel. Apparently, that wasn’t the only pothole in their area and Monte was sick of it.
Monte was ready to make a change.
The young boy decided to make it his mission to fill the potholes, therefore bettering his community immensely! Everyone was ignoring the issue while he decided to address it head-on. He is the exact problem-solver that people needed.
And despite his young age, he did it all on his own.
Determined to fill the potholes around the neighborhood, Monte began taking dirt from the backyard and using it to fill them up. His mother had no idea about any of this though — she simply believed that he was playing, as typical 12-year-old would be. It’s clear that Monte was not a typical 12-year-old though.
While his mother thought he was out playing with his friends, Monte was actually changing the world.
“He saw a need, and he felt like he could meet that need,” Trinell told CBS Evening News.
One of the young boy’s neighbors took note of him filling the potholes so they took a picture of him in action. Then they uploaded it to Facebook where it went viral — the whole world was officially in awe of Monte’s good deed and heroic mindset. There is no doubt that Monte was an incredibly hard worker and his neighbors were appreciating it.
Perhaps the most surprising part is that Monte didn’t tell anyone about what he was doing — nope, not even his mother.
His mother only found out about what her sweet son was doing when she saw the viral clip on Facebook herself.
“Because I didn’t want to see nobody else messing up their car like my mom did,” Monte told CBS. He was furious when his mother’s tire got wrecked because of the pothole, and out of the pure goodness of his heart, he didn’t want to see it happen to any other parent and their child.
And apparently, this isn’t even the first time that Monte has exhibited his heart of gold. There have been many times in the past where he has shown this beautiful, generous side of himself.
“He’s just a kid that likes to help people. If it’s the fall, he’s raking leaves, summer/spring, he’s cutting grass, winter he’s blowing snow,” she said.
“I tell myself I have a responsibility, doing something to help the community out,” Monte added.
I think we can all agree that Trinell raised a fabulous young boy! Watch more in the video below.
