Sassy, young girl stuns the crowd and completely steals the show

YouTube is known for making stars out of ordinary individuals. Such superstars as Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, and The Weekend got their start on the video platform. Now, you can add one more to the list, 11-year-year-old Johanna Colón.
A YouTube star

When six-year-old Johanna broke onto the YouTube scene in 2015 with her performance of Aretha Franklin’s song “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” no one had any idea how far her talent would take her. She made a name for herself with her sass and swagger as she danced in the video with a group of other dancers.
In fact, she stole the show. The video ended up going viral on YouTube, getting over 80 million views. As for Johanna, it helped launch her on a path that would see her become the star of the Amazon original movie, “Troop Zero.” But first, she would make a stop at NBC’s “Little Big Shots.”
An appearance on ‘Little Big Shots’

During her appearance on “Little Big Shots,” Johanna talked to host Steve Harvey as her rendition of “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” was shown on the screen. Her flair for the dramatic is evident as she adds her own stamp to her dance moves. Johanna was far and above the best dancer on the stage that day.

“The other little kids were good. But you were giving it to the people!” Harvey proclaimed.
Johanna makes a name for herself

As Johanna’s videos continued to go viral on YouTube, she attracted the attention of Hollywood casting agents. She was flown to California for a series of auditions at a variety of big-name Hollywood studios. She got her first big role, playing Smash in the Amazon original movie, “Troop Zero.”

Filming alongside such names as Viola Davis, Jim Gaffigan, and Mike Epps, Johanna plays a character named Smash, a sidekick to another character named Hell-No.
“In rural 1977 Georgia, a misfit girl dreams of life in outer space. When a national competition offers her a chance at her dream, to be recorded on NASA’s Golden Record, she recruits a makeshift troop of Birdie Scouts, forging friendships that last a lifetime and beyond,” according to the movie’s description on IMDb.
A promising career

It seems Johanna has segued her YouTube success into a budding acting career, starring in the TV series “Euphoria” and the Netflix film “Feel the Beat,” since her Amazon debut. For more on Johanna and what she has coming up, check out her Facebook page.
